If most racing icons carry a six- to seven-figure price tag, why does this old-school DTM race car carry an estimated value much closer to a fully loaded minivan?
A look under the hood should key you in: This C-Class was used as a show car, and thus lacks an engine and transmission.
Assuming it only needs an engine and …

Briggs & Stratton. Low as that thing is, it would make an excellent riding mower.

That is a very small engine bay...so LSX it is!
What's the Euro equivalent of LS swapping a Mustang? Something from the VW/Audi Family?

Mercedes m113 fits right in these. German lego engines .

I was thinking of a "Sacrilege, that shouldn't be in there!" factor. Like a VW TDI with the boost turned up up up, lol.
I would use the 400 hp AMG motor out of the A class hot hatch. I think FCP Euro did something similar with a 190 2.3 race car.
Oh and to do that thing justice you are going to be 100k deep in to that.
That thing needs such a fine-toothed comb to find anything and everything that is missing or built to "display car" spec.
I mean, it's so much work to put the cage tubes where they are I assume that was done for real, but... I think it's scary, unless you can find out something about its origins. And I'm guessing it's got turnbuckles standing in for dampers and springs, yeah? How many items like that? I'd be real worried without further info that the "intended for display purposes only" wasn't just a CYA disclaimer...
If one was to ask throtl what would they put in this car.. They're prob answer, has to be a rotary..
My better half had a 2012 MB C300 Sport for a couple of years. I liked the car and always thought that building a DTM replica on that W204 platform would be cool. A C63 motor if you wanted to stay all MB or an LS/T56 with the big AMG brakes, some flares, spoiler, air dam, bigger staggered wheels, gutted interior, aluminum panels, rollcage and a bunch of gauges. A fun trackday toy and something to piss off the purist MB crowd.

Sadly, Mercedes saw fit to put the crossmember in exactly the wrong spot for a rotary. One would need a piston engine, something front sump.
I am thinking Volvo five with a suitably modified oil pan.
Nothing's more expensive than a cheap German car, right?
Cheap early Cayenne V8 donor is the answer

Wonder if an M104 is too long for these?
In reply to buzzboy :
I'm pretty sure that you could buy them that way from Mercedes.

The w202 C36 AMG used the biggest M104 and is hella cool. However, on the w201 chassis I know the engine bay length is different between the 4/5 and 6 cylinder cars. Not sure if the w202 is the same.
Hmmm...
I am a Honda guy and as played out as they probably are nowadays I would have to say put a K series in it. You get Honda reliability (depending on how much you build the motor of course), endless power potential (somewhat) for a lot less than most European motors (I could be mistaken on that though), unlimited aftermarket support and best of all you get to piss off all the purists at the same time. If not a K series then I say keep the same theme of sacrilege and go LS, if it can fit in that tiny engine bay that is...
Hello M156, I've found a new home for you........ 450 NA ponies should do the trick nicely.

Would a rotary work if it were dry-sump?
In reply to buzzboy :
I think for the w202 the engine bay is the same across the board. Or maybe you're right about the 4cyl cars having its own engine bay separate from the 6cyl and v8 cars. I know people who have swapped in m113 v8's with stock Mercedes parts and no modifications to the 6 cyl cars. You probably know them too.
A turbo m111 4cyl would be a nice swap too.
Put a stock engine and transmission in it, and it would be perfect for attending Cars and Coffee events. Just don't open the hood.

Don't know about this one, but a lot of show cars are old race cars reskinned to current body. I have heard of show cars being raced after a primary car was crushed.
Gotta be 5.7 Hemi. Okay, maybe not .

You wouldn't get very much. The eccentric shaft is really high up even with no oil pan.
While I am in this thread, I originally saw the tubular bracket thing as a sway bar mount and thought no more of it.
I looked closer. It's an idler arm. Recirc ball steering on a DTM car?
