My son bought a 450 suzuki for $500 in NYC. (Mom won't let him have a sportbike there) He put on new tires, liberated the exhaust, K&N filters, narrowed and flipped the handle bars, then sent the seat to Sargent Seats in Florida.

For $1000 - 1100 it's a great little bike. It spanks my brother's 80 cube Harley.

Great bike - I always lusted for a GS450s in the 80's; ended up with a GS550m, instead.

If he can find a GS1000S fairing (think Wes Cooley), he'll have a jewel. I suspect the bars will need replacing or relocating, though.

Good looking bike. I'm thinking of doing something similar to the CB360 I just bought.

Way to brag That is like saying it can out handle a school bus.

Seriously, cool little bike for a grand.

So how did you do the seat? Stock pan? Custom foam before you got the cover done? Or can you just ship off a seat to Sargent and tell them to do it cafe-style like that?

I really like their DIY replacement seat covers, I have one on my bike. I like the whole cafe style, and would have liked to do something like that but I'm not sure that style would really work on a nighthawk.

Ian sent it to Sargent with a sketch of what he wanted. There's close cell foam on the original pan and some softer squishier stuff filling the bum stop.

He tried to duplicate the lines of the rear tail cover. The seat feels wider because it is lower, closer to the frame. In the riding position it's great, stopping at a light the edges of the seat are noticed inside your thigh; not horrible, just noticed more. Sargent charged $150, but when they chipped the black paint on one side of the fiberglass pan they sent him half the money back.
