So my Freebike (here https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/motorcycles-and-bicycles/got-a-wrecked-vivi-folding-e-bike-now-what-to-do-with-it/241579/page1/) is in need of a new wheel. I found a new fork on Amazon, no problem. But a front wheel seems to elude me.

I found one one on AliExpress possibly:

Or maybe this one on eBay:

I just feel like I'm missing something obvious here. I contacted the bike manufacturer and they don't sell just the front wheel. I don't want to overlook something simple like "just grab a rear wheel, yank the sprocket and bolt on this disc brake adapter" kind of simple solution.

EDIT: Sorry, answering while distracted again and I lazied out of following the links. If you can verify the axle diameter and fork spacing width I think you're in with a shout. Maybe see if you can ascertain anything about the lateral location of the disc mount? I failed to absorb what you'd found.

Take it to the local bike shop and have them lace up a 20" rim to a disc brake hub? It won't be as cheap as AliBayEtc, but it will exist. Unless said bike has a super-funky proprietary fork width or something; it's my impression that a nontrivial number of the flood of cheap ebikes have bits that don't interchange with the existing bicycle world.

A lot of recumbent bikes use 20 for the front wheel and run disks. Does adding that search term help find anything? It is looking like it does, but I could be missing something, too.

Try Prowheelbuilder dots comz - a bike shop in Cumming, GA.  They've build great wheels for me.  I would call if nothing is listed on their site.

Everything I could find is more $$ than I personally would want to pay.  I seriously would NOT have expected a front wheel to be that difficult to find!

Some info from an older MTBR thread also looking for 20in disc brake wheels:

  • Normally the front hub should be 100mm wide, but some folding bikes had 74mm hubs?  Double check/ measure your replacement fork.  Rear hubs are normally 135mm wide, so you cannot use a rear wheel in front.
  • There are two different versions of nominally "20 inch" rims.  The ISO or ETRTO (European) size designations are the actual diameter of the bead (measured in mm): "451" and "406".  Tires obviously will not interchange.  Just for convenience you might want to get a front wheel which is the same as your rear wheel.

Thank you everyone for verifying I'm just not bad a parts scrounging. I'm going to measure the bike forks and see which wheel I need.

You'll need to log in to post.
