Why?

(We've had two rwd v8 trucks, three if you count the crown Vic that we used as a truck)

I'll likely purchase one for my wife. It's got everything of the Pilot that she wants (minus third row) and the parts of a truck I want (bed). We'll likely get the AWD model because it will likely have the same 4500lbs towing capacity of the Pilot AWD. It hits all the marks of a family car we need. The rear seat in the Colorado/Canyon are too small, the Tacoma is the only thing I would cross shop with but the wife hates Toyotas (shes a Honda or Subaru only). We also own Subarus so we don't care about the uglies.

I'm excited, I love it, I like how much people hate it too. I know some people that just get so mad when they see one on the road for no reason. These people also drive brodozers that never see dirt except for their girlfriends.

Wait a minute…a few of the lines in the image seem to be more pixilated than others.

Take a gander at the separation between the cab and the bed…it looks photo shopped to me.

I’m not saying unibody but unibody…or this is an artist rendering taken from a Pilot.

I like V8 rwd things. Cars, trucks, vans all should be V8 rwd. It's what I grew up driving and it's what I like.

I think the first gen Ridgeline is rated to tow 6000 pounds.

If I could get by with five seats this would be something I'd look at. Towing 5k is enough. Being able to throw crap in a bed instead of a trunk/hatch is what I'm looking for. I've always liked car based trucks better than truck based trucks.

I like it. Even the beak.

I'm even coming 'round on that god awful Honda Crosstour.. So maybe I have Honda poisoning.

Sad. If you want a butch looking minivan, maybe you could add a vinyl wrap of one of those whacked out MMA fighters. This thing is better than the last one looks wise but still sad all around. A front wheel drive truck with a transverse drivetrain...just like the crossovers. On top of all that adding a bed to the Honda design language doesn't help. It doesn't hurt either because nothing can help current Japanese styling trends, but the bed doesn't help...

It looks like they were shooting for the VW Amarok with their styling.

Tim doesn't plan to get rid of it until he can buy a second-gen one, and even then our original Ridgeline will probably stay in the family. Margie

Put a ramp bed on and I'll believe you.

How well does it hold up to towing? Odyssey transmissions used to seem to act like Honda was asking an Accord transmission (which may have been marginal there) to move around a truck. Did Honda finally come up with a transaxle that was up to use in heavier vehicles? That's my main concern about these.

That's because the Oddity was just a big accord. I believe they finally put enough coolers and sump capacity on the Ridgeline to handle moving. I know they did with the Pilot/MDX by 2006. Mostly. I still will not rely on a FWD car based anything to be a workhorse when there is so many better options that are just better at all of it. Better fuel economy, more room, better brakes, better towing etc.

Too garish looking for me, but ive been saying that about every truck built in the last 20 years. Not sure why trucks need all the car like features, buy an suv and trailer.

I did see that it keeps the bed trunk, for those of you concerned. Jalop had a reporter hiding inside one with the lid closed.

Honestly, I don't know why the big three haven't stolen that idea. It's so useful. Of course, I guess it's harder to execute when you're not on a car chassis, but still.

I use my bed all the time. The trunk would be borderline useless for me, but a drawer on the side would be nice like some trucks have had in the past.....or the bedside storage that was optional on the newer Rams.

This. Add in the stuidity of making this the same place you hide your (compact) spare tire and tools and it is borderline idiotic. BUT.... if you don't use a truck as a truck, than I am sure it's fine. But why not just buy another pilot with a utility trailer?

In reply to Bobzilla: It doesn't really fix your complaint, but on the first gen at least, there is also built-in support for fixing the spare to the side of the bed.
