Since I lost my Citizen a few years ago, I haven't worn a watch, but I'm considering getting another..........mostly as a fashion statement, something that looks cool.
I have a cell phone that tells time.
If I were to do something, I'd be looking in the $450-700 range..............any suggestions?
Watch styles are more varied these days than ever before. What sorts of things 'look cool' to you? What kind of statement would you like to make? Do you have a preference for something quartz or mechanical?
The more "mechanical" looking ones, I guess?
Hadn't really thought about it.
No preference either way.
I really like Breightlings and such, but $2k+ on watch is a bit much.

lum-tec.com
family owned company, made in Ohio with Japanese movements. Very nice.
Per, great link, cool watches!
I think that's part of the problem, I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for. There are so many choices/styles/etc at the top of my price range.
Bell & Ross BR-01. Everything else is...well crap.

Yep. You can get obsessed—don't hang out on the watch forums, it just makes it worse.
I have the M50 and now wear it more than my Heuer for 'dress-up'. I use a G-shock for car work/racing/everyday.

Lum-tec are highly regarded by the folk on my watch forum.

Hamilton also have some nice watches in that price range, particularly if you were after something "dressier".
Luke, don't really need something "dressier," this is a part of the country where a $150 dinner for two................jeans and a polo are acceptable.
Dario Franchitti edition , its even got the 10 highlighted in red....
Really though, I like this watch a lot, but I'm not about to spend 500 dollars on it. You do it for me.
Hamilton and Lum-Tec are both great recommendations. There are also lots of fans of Seiko and Orient mechanical watches. I've seen some really cool Victorinox Swiss Army pieces as well. I've found the best deals (50%-75% off retail) on off-price sites like InventoryAdjusters.com and Overstock.com or on Amazon.
Personally I collect Chinese mechanical watches, because in my opinion that's where the coolest innovation is these days.

I'm realizing I like a lot of the TW Steel stuff.
+1 on Victorinox; I got mine from Sierra Trading Post, which is another good source, but their inventory varies a lot.
Whatever you do do NOT go to http://www.watchismo.com/ if you are the least bit weak of constitution. That place could put me in debtor's prison in one night.

I have a Swiss Army Officers', that's the toughest watch I have ever owned. I got it in 1998, it has been though the wringer and people still say 'hey, nice watch'.

That kind of money also allows for a myriad of vintage choices.
Eg, Jacky Ickx edition Sorna chrono:

It has been a long time since I've regularly worn a watch, but I'm really hooked on this look of this one:

oris F1 watches are kinda cool
I've always found the Watchismo watches to be more about being weird than looking good. Although they do sell Mondaine (at a price premium), and that's what's strapped on my wrist right now. It's the most legible watch face I think I've ever seen. Great design. Tritium tubes in the hands means it's truly visible at night too - no need to "charge it up".
I love my Tag Heuer Formula 1. The prices vary from around $700 to $1300 depending on the options.
if you like a dive watch many nice choices (seiko citizen) but i wear a cwc ( cabot watch company) rare enough to be distinctive, cost 500-700 you can only buy new from england, google CWC the royal navy choice for royal navy divers and SAS. Replaced rolex submarnier. Its the watch James Bond would wear currently if he really existed, as opposed to contractualy obligated to omega. rated to 300 meters choice of quartz or mechanical, calandar or not. i wear a quartz non calandar as a back up to my dive computer, on maybe a hundred dives never a leak. which can't be said of my dive buddies tags or rolex
You can pick up some pretty decent deals on chronoshark. www.chronoshark.com
The "Invicta" brand watches they sell are decent. Certainly some of the better watches in the $100-$400 category. Invicita makes 10 million different styles. I am a fan of the "Russian Diver" models.
The wife got me this one for my B-day last year. I've enjoyed it.
Different is good.
