If there are any Seattle based Test Engineer types on the forum, please send me an email -> i've got some questions about the Seattle market.
If there are any Seattle area residents, let me know where the nearest race tracks are (and autox clubs). I'm considering a relocation out there & want to make sure there is a decent GRM / car contingent available.
thanks
Kendall
Not a Seattle resident (about 1.5 hours south) but I know the racing. There's one road race course (Pacific Raceways, the old Seattle International Raceway) that's about an hour from the center of Seattle. NW Region SCCA is very active and has autocrosses right across the Sound in Bremerton and down a bit in Packwood (National Tour site). There's a decent amount of stuff going on up in Canada as well. If you drive a little further south you can hit Portland International Raceway (about a 2.5 hour drive) for road racing/HPDE/autocross. 2 hours from PIR is the new Oregon Raceway Park, a hugely technical track that follows the hilly lay of the land and has been universally praised since opening 2 years ago. Oregon Region SCCA autocrosses in PIR and Packwood only. There's also Cascade Sports Car Club, and a bunch of other independents who put on auocrosses. We prefer the Oregon Region PCA, but race with nearly everybody.
The real secret is, this is the mecca of Rally in the US. We have 3 major stage rally events here every year (Olympus Rally, Oregon Trail Rally, and the Mt. Hood Rally) plus numerous smaller events, rallycrosses, and whatnot. Since my eventual racing dream is stage rally I'm never moving.
The following link won't help w/info re: test engr mkt but it will re: cars:

Oh, traffic headaches in the greater Seattle area depend somewhat on where you live; weather, not so much...
You just want free rivets from Boeing, don't you?
I escaped Detroit to here 6 years ago and don't miss it a bit. I can't help you much with your questions, but I can say: make sure you can afford a house that costs 5 to 6 times what you own in MI. There's plenty for sale here, but the market is much higher then the midwest.
It never gets cold or hot here, unless you ask the locals. I was surprised at all of the old cars still running around (70's and 80's). Traffic is not bad if you're from Detroit.
I miss bagels!
