This seems to be very much like the diabetic diet I was put on a couple of years ago. I was kept to 250-275 grams of carbs daily though. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables now, averaging 1-1.5 pounds daily. I've stayed away from bread except for a tortilla each day and a hamburger bun once a week. Very little red meat and a lot of chicken and I have low carb pasta twice a week. Saturday is still pizza night at our house, so I'm not suffering on a diet of rabbit food. I just stay away from the usual stuff that we all enjoy but know isn't good for us. I'm down from 198 to 163 pounds and much fitter, too. At 5'10" that puts me in the "normal" range on the BMI charts.
Good for you, Steve.
I’ve read Atkins in the past, plus South beach, The metabolism miracle : 3 easy steps to regain control of your weight permanently and talked to people on the 4 hour diet. They are all similar but not the same, low carbs. The most common misconception I’ve come across is that people think they mean no veggies, which is just wrong.
I started an ultra-low simple carb, no sugar (except an occasional glass of wine, not beer) about 3 weeks ago. This was not just for weight, but I’m concerned about my blood sugar. I’m not diabetic, or even pre diabetic, but I really want to get it lower as I am over weight and there is a history of type 2 diabetes in my family. So far I’ve lost about 9lb’s but not much difference to my blood sugar. Talking to my doctor she recommended taking cinnamon with each meal, pity as I hate the stuff, but so far that seems to be able to lower my BS by about 10 points without changing anything else.
I'm surprised a MD would recommend cinnamon, I thought the jury was out on it's claims.
My doc recommended South Beach to me years ago, he was doing it himself. He said it was healthier and more balanced than Atkins. IIRC, it relies more on lean proteins, not fatty ones. But I have two problems with it: I hate fish, and I love carbs in all their forms, bread, pasta, rice, you name it.....

This title really makes me uneasy. The whole Atkins diet really makes me uneasy. It really is not healthy, especially long term.
I'm sure that being extremely fat is much worse for your health in the long term.

Me too, but I found after the first couple of days it's become much much easier and
I don't crave them any more. another good tip is taking one day a week of to eat what you want so you don't get too bored with it.

While she's qualified as a regular allopathic doc. she's far more into natural, holistic and homeopathic remedies and it works. She wants people to heal themselves without drugs where possible, but is ready to prescribe when needed. Don’t go to her expecting an antibiotic because your kids got the sniffles like most docs

I've met a few overweight dietitians towing the "zomg it's so bad for you line." Real ding in the credibility.

Back in the day, I installed an alarm system for a weight control doctor. He was pushing 300 pounds. Not too much credibility there.

It's possible to have knowledge but not willpower.
The whole point of your original post was to celebrate your weight loss, so congrats!!! You should be thrilled.
Only thing I would add is that you should start looking into making sure you have a nutrition plan to use for when you're at your goal weight. Something that will help you maintain your weight and be healthy for you. I'd suggest a solid balanced diet, which includes carbs, they're very important.
Way to go! Man...that is fantastic weight loss. Good for you. Now you have an excuse to buy a new race suit!

That is all included in the book, otherwise you would just keep losing weight.
Update
Have meet my 200lb goal and maintained it for the past month.

Atkins works for me, I am proof
Not to be an ass, but no diet works for everybody. I congratulate you in your success and I hope it continues for you.
My body thrives on carbs and I would shrivel without them. I enjoy them. In fact, I'm sorry you have to avoid them. More for me though.
Either way, I'm glad you found something that works for you and once again congratulations on not being a chub chub.
You may now visit the beach without getting stuck in that damn lawn chair you always bring with you.

Oh and my bad cholesterol level has dropped significantly.
that's the part the heart doctors can't understand .... the whole time they're beating you over the head about how BAD the Atkins diet is, they're seeing your LDL decrease ... blows them away
oh, almost forgot .... WELL DONE

Badass. That is some good improvements there.
Feeling any different?
Well done man.
I have been thinking about doing it with my wife, but the whole beer thing sucks.

Well just substitute it for single malt scotch. That's aussie's solution.
Congratulations, but report back in a year. My experience with dieting of any kind is yes, you can lose the weight, but the only way to keep it off is to stay on that diet forever. I prefer small changes in my eating that I can sustain over time. But like someone else said, not everything works for everyone. Quite an accomplishment in any case.
Congrats. I'm 5'11 and 190lbs, I'm out of the "larger frame" according to that link I'm very small boned and sure don't look like 190 lbs.
I suppose I am proof that eating an enormous amount of carbs helps you lose weight. Sometimes I am proof that eating mostly lean meat and vegetables helps you lose weight. I just go with the flow with whatever diet my wife has chosen. If I am plumping up, I eat slightly less and run slightly more. And I lose weight every time, regardless of the makeup of my diet.
Congrats!!
When I retired from the army 16 years ago I weighed 185 and 5'11". Got a desk/cube job and went to night school and went up to 225. Started having blood pressure and cholestrol issues about the time I finished night school. Changed my diet to leaner foods and became more active. Dropped 25 pounds and now a healthy 200 even that is easy to maintain. Could I still lose some? Yeah but not worth the effort to me. Especially since I'm now over 50.
Congrats.
We are both at the 200lb club. I have lost 30lbs since February.
