FYI, I priced shipping to my address for just 2 lights - $12.45 so its not like they are gouging you on shipping either if you have to pay it.

Hmm, Rural King has a store in the next town over. About a 20 minute drive.

It'd be nice to have a bright garage, I swear mine just soaks up any amount of illumination I throw at it.

Looks like they have a similar light with 3000 lumens @ 5000k for the same price too. If you like the whiter light that is.

If you plan to hit the store check the buy online store pickup option, and it'll tell you if the local store has them. Mine doesn't. Ordering some later, thanks for the heads up, Pete

blarg. wasn't planning to spend $100 on shop lighting when I woke up this morning, but still, thanks for the heads up

I think I'm going to experiment with mounting at least one of them on a small panel with ball bearing casters that I can roll around on the ground under a vehicle.

Saw that deal in the morning RK email. Are these that good or is there better lighting options out there w/ sales from HD, Lowes etc? Not really in the loop w/ current lighting options.

I live ten minutes from RK here but no local pickup. Free shipping w/ 6 lights at $127. I'd like to upgrade my shop lights but are these the best ticket?

Ready to pull the trigger if so.

edit: quick search of orange and blue stores, not even close

Ordered 6, tyvm

For what it's worth, Home Depot still has the 4' "light bar" units for $25. Personally I like those over the housinged ones

Is that an online deal? I've never seen them that cheap in-store.

Ordered 10. I have a problem. Hopefully I can flush mount some of them with a few quick mods.

Can you hardwire these? Might be easier & cheaper than ordering LED t8s and removing the ballasts from my fixtures.

In reply to ProDarwin:

Worst case to hardwire them you can cut the cord, strip back a few inches, and put it through a Romex or SO Cord strain relief into the electric box.

This kind of thing: http://www.homedepot.com/p/1-2-in-Strain-Relief-Cord-Connectors-2-Pack-21692/100207234

or: http://www.homedepot.com/p/3-8-in-Non-Metallic-NM-Twin-Screw-Cable-Clamp-Connectors-5-Pack-20511/100133208

The first one is probably more code-compliant, but if you don't care about that, the second one is much much cheaper and would work. If your box doesn't have a knockout available you could use a cover plate with a 1/2" KO (knockout) and put the strain relief / clamp on that. (Or even use a blank plate and drill a 1/2" hole in it for the strain relief.)

Looks like a good deal.

Realize of course, LED's are only going to get cheaper, so if you are not in a hurry, I wouldn't worry, deals like these should stick around and likely get better.

Oooohhhh, I like that idea. I have also thought about mounting a couple to the side of a sawhorse for body work and detailing. Get lots of light onto the side of a car that way.

Actually I have the 3' units not the 4'. They were $29.x when I bought them, now they're $19.x.

And I bought them in store, not online

When I was there they had room for like 30 of them on the shelf but only four in stock. Must be a hot seller.

Has anyone looked at the LEB replacement bulbs that fit your standard shop light fixture? I have two 2 bulb lights in my basement workshop area that are great. I just purchased 4 more to install in the some of the garage shop lights. More light with less wattage and they start up even in cold temps.

That's what I'm looking at now. If you go the ebay route you can get them for ~$5/bulb, which is not bad at all.

In reply to jimbbski:

the clearance section at my local Home Depot gets them sometimes. I've seen as low as $2 a bulb, you just have to check in sort of regularly. I used to have a friend that worked there and would tip me off, but he's moved on to less useful to me job.

You still have a big ass transformer / ballast up in the housing that can be a failure point (I just had an 8' one leak stinky black stuff all over my laundry room). It also doesnt save electricity it just adds convenience.

All the LED T8 replacement bulbs I have seen take the ballast out of the equation. You bypass it/throw it in the trash.

I just bought 2 T8 LED replacements that use the ballast at Lowes. $16 out the door.
