Helping a friend determine value on a 1968 Mustang, V8, Auto, Coupe. Where is the definitive source?

A good place would probably be a Mustang specific message board. They will likely have a very realistic idea of value and saleability (which is also very important). Some of those value lists can be way off, especially for non-show cars.

It's not gold, I can tell you that. '68 coupes were the most common classic Mustang made, and small-block/autos were the most common of the V8s.

this is true.

a fully restored coupe, no matter what the PO spent on fixing it up, will bring 8-12k. coupes are a money loser as far as restoration for-profit goes, unless you just love doing body work on your own.

unless its a real GT (verified by the VIN) its not going to bring a ton of money, especially if it is gold (in color, that is)

And don't confuse the value of a '68 with that of a '65-'66.

Wrap it around a tree and see what the insurance company gives you for it. That kills two birds with one stone: 1- you'll know in the future, and 2- it gets one more mustang off the road.

I keed, I keed.

Grab a Standard Catalog of American Vehicles at a bookstore. Not only does it have some vague pricing guidelines but it has breakdowns of production numbers by type. Might be very useful.

Edit.... or just post the specs and I'll look through my book.

From that point, go to Ebay and search for 68 mustangs, then click on "completed items." That will show you a list of what has recently completed and whether or not they sold for the highest bid.

Overprice it... Like at least triple if not ten times what you think it might be worth..... Then put that on CL.... Or just about anywhere else...

It won't take long for people to tell you what it is worth, as well as generate traffic... and the responses are fun...

and if you are serious about selling... don't forget to stress the obo... most people wont notice it anyway...

The market is always the definitive source. See what others in similar condition, options and colors are bringing. For me old cars are all about condition and desireability. What color is it? Any mods? Condition?
