I would go with the HF 212 predator. They are proven reliable. They are very popular in the minibike and gokart world so parts are plentiful and cheap. At $99 with coupon you cant go wrong. you can purchase an extended warranty through HF if it makes you feel better.
About the 8hp rating on your old B&S- a few years ago HP ratings for small engines were revised. It is entirely possible that the HF 212cc engine is more powerful than your old B&S.

Thanks for posting that- I got the feeling that it was the case, and it really changes how I'm buying it. I was shooting in the 270-310 cc range, as that was what my older engine was rated at- but I also saw the rating changed on the B&S motor go from power to torque. So instead of rating, I'm more using the 205 cc as the nominal range.
Which is helpful, as it actually widens the gap between the Predator and many other engines.
And update- recall that I thought I ruined my motor due to my incompetence.
A little clarification for that. For some stupid reason, I left the bag draped over the intake of the shredder, so once I started the motor, the bag was ingested into the shredder.
Total incompetence by me.
I thought I broke the engine because of being so stupid.
I may have not. I took apart the whole chipper/shredder, and before removed the engine, I checked to see if it would run. It did, just fine. Ok...
Long story short, due to me being stupid, the shredder blade bent. Which threw the whole mechanism out of whack, making it hit the wall. I didn't notice until I started to put the blade back on, thinking that it didn't fit at all. Oh, it's not straight anymore.
So instead of $100 new engine, it's a $27 blade, and after a $10 amazon coupon, just $17.
Still stupid on my part.
But look at all the information we all gleaned from your incompetence
