They seem fairly certain that I won't need surgery. I'm currently wearing the figure eight brace (which is junk and won't stay "really" tight"). Also have the arm in a sling most of the days.

To my uneducated eye the initial xrays looked fairly gruesome. The collar bone has moved in about two inches. The bone's in four pieces, a one inch+ piece broke and split down the middle. I just want to comfortable that they aren't trying to just avoid the uninsured guy. I lift 100lbs+ on a fairly regular basis and do a fair amount of work over my head. I can't afford to miss a bunch of pay letting this heal and then find out it's not right and miss more work fixing it after the fact. I've got a follow-up Thursday I guess we'll see how the xrays look.

Less politics, more younger women.

And more shared collarbone experiences would probably make me feel better.

Angry reply that it would heal funny while he stood in line for x-rays and toilet paper comrade.
That explains all the mis-shapen Canadians . . .

Man, bone injuries freak me out. I'd be in the hospital right now trying to figure out some way to get that bone put back together. I'm getting queasy just thinking about yours!

It would be a sad day when you'd be forced to take out a loan to pay for your health. Could you sign up for insurance tomorrow and use that? Most insurance companies don't appear to require physical exams. How long would it take before you're covered?

We're missing some important info. How did you break your collarbone in four places, and a date with a girl that could be your daughter in the same day? Pics of collarbone and date would help.

I just ask myself, "What would Wally do?" And then do it! The result is broken bones and hot dates.

Broke the bones on Tuesday. Previously planned date was Thursday. I made it clear to the ER staff that if any surgery was going to be required it wasn't going to happen until Friday. As it turns out no surgery required to this point. Follow-up xrays in a few hours.

No pics of the collarbone yet. Not sure if the date would appreciate me posting pics publicly. Check your email...

"What would Wally do" should only be attempted by trained professionals.

Even I couldn't recommend doing that. It results in many broken bones and the occasional hospital stay. Thanks to breaking my feet more than once and a month straight of rain I have begun to waddle like a drunken penguin by the end of the day and get a pretty good pain in my sternum when it's cold. I imagine with a nicely damaged collarbone there will be more sweaters and scarves in your future.

Edit: Good insurance is worth every penny. I've been paying for the duck for a long time, and when I was out of work the checks showed up quickly and regularly. It is nice to know that if I miss work for a while I'll still cover the mortgage.

For those interested in my x-ray here's a lousy camera phone shot. This is after the fall. It's extended back out in length some since but it still just as low. I'm feeling better about foregoing surgery now. But honestly is something was that broken on one of my cars or bikes I would fix it.
