So I just get a call from my 19 year old daughter.
She says “Dad, I’m driving a Ferrari 488 and I can’t figure out how to put it in park. Can you help me?”

I'll just leave that here for now.

Push button?

...and we thought the manual transmissions were going to be the difficult part.

I would imagine if she just turns it off it will put itself in park.

Or roll away...

No big deal, what's the worst that could happen?

We hope it isn't stolen.

The 488 doesn't have a traditional Park button like most cars.  If she just shuts it off it will put itself in park.

You raised her perfectly.  She is driving that car and she calls you for information on it.  Job well done!

We rented a lake house a few years ago and my daughter said, "My friend's parents have a house on the lake. He has a Lamborghini."

I immediately pictured a poorly hacked together Fiero kit car, or at best, maybe a C8 Corvette, until I heard him coming around the lake...from about six miles away.

Turns out, the kid has a pretty good job, too.

She FaceTimed me so I could see the buttons and stuff. Nothing jumped out at me so I googled it. If you want to put it in park but leave it running I think you pull up on the right paddle with your fort on the brake. In her situation, yeah, just shut it off and it'll go in park.
I was jealous she was driving a Ferrari, but also stoked that she turned to me.
like the doc said, maybe I did something right.

My daughter didn't call me but said later her TPMS light and CEL was lit up. Where did I fail?

In reply to Datsun240ZGuy :

My daughter can't change her own wiper blades, but she does have her own code scanner so she can turn off the CEL every few weeks, and she understands that her TPMS light is never going away.

FYI, she's a valet at a new high end resort, we do not circulate in Ferrari circles lol.

My daughter goes to college 300 miles away and this is her first year taking her 170,000 mile car with her.

I too sent her with a scanner so she can tell me what the issue is on her car.  We had a class in my driveway last August.

One month later I'm leaving at 6am to drive 1200 miles on sales call week all over Indiana and Kentucky and my Silverado CEL triggers in my driveway and I don't have a scanner......DOH!

I read this at first as: "I immediately procured a poorly constructed fiero based kit car..." and wasn't even surprised. Then sorta disappointed when I realized I read it wrong.

The fact she knew what she was driving, and to call you, means you did it right. Congratulations!

i got another call from my daughter about transmission fluid in her Saturn last night.  This is the third time she's run the thing low/out of fluid.  The first time she put 5w30 in it, so a call is a good thing.  Damn Saturn amazingly enough is still going though.
