I wonder how long until I see a boat with three of those outboards. I've seen them with 3 300's regularly. Still can't out run Customs helicopters, though.

It can't outrun Coastie helicopters, but the my first experience with this set-up was enlightening...

We actually did a back of the envelope calculation, with some of the low radar reflactive paint, a fast off shore boat. You could get within 70 miles of the keys before you were ever noticed. If the chopper is dead cold no crew you have to get it started so there is 2-3 minutes.

With a boat approaching 200~ (we will use 210 for easy calcs ) you have a boat that can reach your shores in 20 minutes.

Take 3 away for start you are at 17 minutes

Make the assumption it drops out side of contact range (drug boats have radar) and at night.

You wonder why soo much gets in this country and new respect for the Coast Guard and Customs guys on that watch.

Re: Go Fast boats. I live quite close to a lot of marine shops. Some do really sketchy stuff. When you see a trailered boat, 30-32 feet, with 3 300's on the back, multiple radio antennas, solid gray paint, not a fishing pole in sight, that boat's purpose is pretty conspicuous. And FHP is right down the road as well. From Port Lauderdale to Bimini is just over 50 miles, so thet can make that run in less than a half hour. But then they run the gauntlet on Coasties, Customs, and Broward County Marine to try to get unloaded. Read in the paper regularly about abandoned boats found with drugs still aboard. In too much of a hurry to get all of it, I guess.

Who says Corvettes are slow?

Also, since we brought up running boats down Florida way, the thread would not be complete without this hotlink:
