Hey 1970s, we need to talk.

I will race you.
Grizz wrote: At my current budget? That's accurate. Here's a funny thing I just realized though. I have never seen a basket case Magnum for sale. Every single one I've come across has been in very nice shape. I'm trying to think of another car I can say the same about and failing. I'm guessing it's because they're late 70s Chryco products and all the ones that weren't taken care of have either been returned to the Earth or recycled into new Chryco products.
Just looked and couldn't find a picture of a basket case one either. Most got used up as drivers/beaters by the '90's. Smog-era cars weren't exactly being considered as collectibles during that time.
A buddy and I parted one out in the late '90's. Was too rough to save. Tried buying another one off a company I used to work for, but nobody could figure out what paperwork was needed.
Still wouldn't mind one, but I'd want a hardtop over the T-top.
They were the last of the RWD Mopar B-bodies. Last of the big block cars too. Still had the traditional longitudinal torsion bars. Lots of rubber isolating the suspension bits, but with some aftermarket poly or aluminum bushings they tighten up real well.
Under the skin they were the same as the '73 B-bodies, like my Road Runner.
The last of that chassis was the R-body 4-door. Made most famous by TJ Hooker.

This is right on so many levels....and there is a Malibu of this generation for sale here in town...
I was given a 1978 Magnum the same color color scheme as the one in the pic. It is the only car I have ever had that caught fire while I was driving, good times.

Richard petty built one of these for Nascar when it was the last RWD chassis available from Chrysler. He said something like this: "It would take all the power in the Grand Coulee dam to get this thing over 200mph."
EDIT: Sorry, at first glance I saw Imperial, not Cordoba...
Thinking about this as the basis for a primitive cabin out in the back field. Better than an old leaking shasta trailer.

I dream about a 440 and a 4 speed......

No fair. My plans involve a street car. With headlights.
Better idea, let's make lots of noise in parking lots of shopping centers, see how many of these we can attract to prove the old adage, cammed v8 = Bob Costas magnet.
Yes, I felt I needed a reason to post it. Yes, I would have posted it anyway.
Nice car in the pictar by the way.
Ah yes, the 1970's. The nadir of luxury car customization. Era of the 'Super Fly kit'.

Even had to replace the crank on it.
(I realized early, however, I couldn't make money as a history major...)

Love to climb those mounds.

The Grapes of Wrath has a couple of similar sections, IIRC they have to replace rod bearings. Steinbeck mentions saving the oil, straining and reusing it.
Not the GoW car, just a random Depression era breakdown:

I like the look of that wheel/tire combo on that car. A lot. Hope the RR/LR swap was on purpose...
Really need to finish the garage and get going on the 2002 before I end up with another E30 to "just drive" while I work on the 2002...
Gah! What evil is this!? I google E30 and they show me the remains of my own car!?
