My sister reminded me about this storm from when we were kids. I had kind of forgotten about but googled the pics today. This is Chicago winter of '78. Yes it was this bad. I remember not being able to see the car next to the garage as the drift from the roof covered it. And you did have to shovel the roof to keep it from collapsing. Fun times.

My uncle told of a story about one guy who kept parking in a spot they cleared out on the south side of Chicago after them repetedly being told that the spot was theirs . He and his friends packed the undercarriage tight with snow and for good measure hosed it down with water. That bastard didn't get to move his car till March.
