I disagree entirely. As the game gets less physical, it is getting faster, more athletic, and more exciting.

It's getting faster for other reasons, and coincidental, but I certainly don't find modern hockey to be more exciting and entertaining. I find it's often boring and generic.

Playoff hockey is always the best hockey and always more physical

That's a bigger indictment of Pittsburg than of anything else.  If the only restaurant steak you've ever had is at Sizzler on your Mom's birthday, then you're likely to vote Sizzler.

Since we're on hockey (or I'm keeping us on hockey)... I want new skates. No reason other than I'm kinda bored and like to have backups to a pointless degree.

These Graf 707s were the finest skates I ever owned. I wore these for probably 2 seasons too many, they were BEAT by the time I retired them. I think I started wearing them when I was 16, replaced the holders and runners at 18, and finally replaced them around 25 (and I was reffing a lot at that point).

I replaced them with these - my 2nd favorite skate I've ever owned. Not quite as comfortable, and slightly less protection, but so much lighter than my 707's

Those are starting to get worn out after 5 seasons, but still good I still use them, however, I jumped on a tremendous deal for new CCMs that fit well enough, and I'll use both pairs, especially if I'm doing 6-12 games in a day. Start out the day in the CCMs (or wear the CCMs when I'm the ref instead of the linesman, more skating), switch to the dry Grafs after a few games, let the CCMs dry out, and go back to them for the night set.

These are good, though not quite the right fit, but I hate how flashy they are. And the new ones have a mechanism to remove the blade, instead of nuts/bolts like this model. I hate that. Why complicate something I almost never use? I've seen them brake quite frequently.

I can't decide if my next pair will be custom ordering some Grafs like the above ($$$$), since the company is still around but barely, or getting some CCM Tacks - which should fit better than the Jetspeeds above.

Most comfortable skates I've ever owned were Tackaberry's. I wore them so long past their best before date they were disintegrating before my eyes.

I posted this pic a few weeks ago. Can't tell but those are probably Tacks

My dad is now in Grafs, but he wore his Tacks with Kangaroo leather, IIRC, from 1968ish to 1997.

Mom got him this shirt for Christmas

The neutral zone trap made things a bit boring, and more offense is good BUT hockey is a physical game. Does anybody really want to see hockey become the next Premier League Football?

No, and I left the discussion before making that comment myself.  I think the footballers' crybaby overacting is just as bad as hockey fights.

I admit I'm not really a sports fan, but if I want to watch a hockey game, I want to watch people play hockey, not try to get away with E36 M3 until a fight breaks out.

I still have the CCM (752s?) Super tacks I got as a freshman in high school. I'll be 40 in a few months.

Not mine but identical (maybe nicer, lol)

My brother had some like those. I remember wanting them, because they were KEVLAR! I didn't know what that was, except it was what bulletproof vests were made out of.

The last pair of Tacks I had was in about 2nd grade. They looked like this

Hockey, the only sport I'd go out of my way to play. Though being raised in sunny SoCal, I've never been on the ice, and I always just got whatever skates there were at goodwill that almost fit. I still have a stick somewhere.

Clean contact is great, seeing somebody take a good check and then get up and get back into the play is part of what makes hockey fun to watch.

Honestly, I do not see this being a problem. In fact, it is a little bit too far the other way - hockey has a culture of playing through it, to a dangerous degree. I've seen a kid knocked cold, given the aggressor a Game Misconduct, and 10 minutes later the kid that was knocked out is back on the ice. Should have been on his way to a hospital. Kids who act hurt get ridiculed by their own teammates.

You do not see it beyond the U12 age level, at least not at the higher levels.

This is actually, at the youth level, no longer a clean check, because there is no attempt to play the puck. At the upper levels I would never call it, but that is the trend USAH is taking it. I won't get into the politics with that particular ruling, as I disagree with it - you should be allowed to play the body and not the puck, as long as the check is clean, although this particular check I don't like seeing the stick up that high.

I look at hockey fights like I look at NASCAR wrecks, I'm not tuning it to see them, but if it happens, it happens, I'm not turning the channel.
