That is all.
I'll be there in a few weeks and can't wait for it to be normal

The Doane Spencer roadster. Exhaust through the frame rails and the DuVall windshield are dead giveaways. Arguably the most beautiful 32 roadster ever built.

In a way, yes. Stripped down for lightness and simplicity. Arguably not as good looking, but functionally identical. Yeah, I think you've on to something.
Here's Doane Spencer fabricating a new front nerf bar for the car. He's the one with the goggles. He was a superb fabricator, machinist, engine builder, and mechanic. He didn't just build hot rods. He worked at Hollywood Sports Cars for many years. This car went through a lot of iterations since the early forties and I don't think it ever ran with that particular engine. It's now owned by Bruce Meyer and spends time in the Petersen Museum when Bruce isn't driving it.
I was lucky enough to tour the Peterson, Bruce Meyer's personal collection and even his home garage a few years ago. This is the car at his personal collection above Rodeo Drive

Well, we are seeing the high end, nostalgic hot rods. The ones that even back in the day made it into magazines. Not the ones where someone grabbed a Model A from behind the shed, wedged an Olds 330 bewteen the frame rails, welded the two together where they touched, and always parked on a hill because they could not afford a starter...

The Petersen Museum is great, but I was really impressed with Bruce's personal collection on the second floor of one of his Los Angeles properties. I visited both in October 2016 ... when I was around 40 pounds heavier:
(I didn't get to see his home garage though. Lucky you!)

Catastrophic engine failure!
Two main bearing four cylinder... sounds familiar, but I cannot place it.

And cylindrical connecting rods?
