With internet, if you are going cheap, you can effectively get phone (voip or skype) and TV.
Hi Stroker, I am one of Clem Sparks coworkers. Anyway. In our area, cheap internet is tough. I have Charter which is about as cheap as I can manage at my house (North Columbia). If you get your own modem I think it is a little over 40 a month. At that point I would suggest a free/ voice over internet and netflix. You should be able to do all that for less than 60 a month. That is the best I found.
I dropped phone and cable/satellite entirely. Cheapest I could get was DSL standalone @ ~$35/month after taxes/fees.
Otherwise I use my cell phone only in place of a land line, and Netflix streaming at $8/mo. for entertainment for the kid, in addition to over the air major network / PBS broadcast (about 10 channels).
Yep, get the cheapest internet connection possible. Don't bother with standard phone or cable TV. Not worth it. Go with internet phone (Skype, Goole Voice, etc) and Over the air TV (bunny ears) and internet streaming (Roku box, or just a computer with an internet connection connected to your TV)
Went from $100/month for Cable/Internet to $37.50/month for DSL. Found more time to do things as well since I wasn't tied to their TV schedule, but my own.
Does the slow speed of DSL bother you? I have Comcast megasuperOMG fast internet and don't really know if I need it or not.
My DSL is faster than Comcast.
Comcast throttles uploads, DSL doesn't. So my ability to work from home is not hampered.
130.00 for AT&T, so don't bother there.
If you are strapped for cash, get an antenna, low speed (high speed) internet and a VOIP line.
we gave up our cable over a year ago and rarely miss it....
... check http://www.tvfool.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=13&Itemid=1 and look into a TV antenna...
i'm just outside a big city these days so the crappy small digital antenna I bought for $25 picks up over 50 stations on a good day...
then consider hulu or netflix... depending on your TV and computer setup you might be able to just use your computer (laptops + LCD/plasma TV = easy)... if not you can get a streaming box of some sort... tons of options at under $100... but you will be paying a small fee to use hulu or netflix streaming...
we went to cell-phones only... we had a VOIP line but got rid of it as we never used it... tons of VOIP options out there if you don't do the cell phone thing though...
