sadly wagons still have that "stigma" of the huge old landyachts with the rear facing back seats. The boomers hated that they got stuck in the "way back" and vowed to never do that to their kids.. so they bought HUGE SUVs with a third row seat you can barely get into or even fit into.. They really love having those things called "tall wagons" Personally, when I saw the cruze wagon.. I thought it was a saab for a moment. The side view looks very swedish

those rear facing seats rocked. when i was a kid, i always wanted to ride on the rear facing seat at the back of the old Impala wagon. but i'm only 37, so my opinion doesn't count since i'm not a "boomer"..

manufacturers don't build wagons because there's more profit per unit to be squeezed out of convincing people that they need a jacked up 4X4 thing that fits into some newly made up 3 letter category that ends in the letters "UV" than there is in selling cars that people could actually better utilize in their day to day jaunts thru suburbia.

That's true, but I am a boomer, so I'll give you my opinion.

That is an ugly car. I see nothing (except the manual trans) that is even remotely attractive about it. What's with the overhang on the front? The whole front end looks like it was tacked on as an afterthought. GM normally builds good looking cars. This is not one of them.

While I know anyone of us here could get a gas engined car to do that with pretty simple maintenance, I am not buying that all three of my old diesels were kept up by "car guys", especially with the aesthetic condition of the interior/exterior.

I bolded the reason this doesn't matter to most. In this day and age, its easy to make a motor last 250K, 300K, hell, 350K miles. The rest of the car... not so much, unless you care for it and maintain it really well. The exterior gets beat up, the interior gets trashed, accessories break, etc. 99.9% of buyers treat a car as disposable before the 200K mark.

I would like the diesel Cruze option though.

FWIW, there are 2 Cruze Diesels on fuelly, their mileage numbers are no better than the Eco 6spd cars.
