Even though I first saw this on Reuters, I had to confirm with another site because I thought maybe Reuters had been hacked:

http://edition.cnn.com/2016/07/08/us/dallas-police-shooting-live-updates/index.html

Ho. Lee. E36 M3. This is the most shocking escalation of violence in the western world since 9/11. I'm amazed that this many revenge-fueled madmen were able to meet to coordinate this attack.

I watched the live thread unfold on Reddit last night. Total disbelief until I watched a few of the live videos. It sounded like a war zone.

I'm not. I've run into a number of young men this morning that are practically giddy. I'm not sure how this is going to change their lives for the better but they seem to think it will.

That's the worst part. People are drawing further and further apart, it's a mess.

I am trying to figure out why. Who benefits?

Racists? Minorities? Gun lobby? Gun control lobby? Politicians? Terrorists?

It's not an accident. It is a coordinated effort of skilled people.

I don't get it.

I've never been one for conspiracy theories but the timing of this and the headlines out so far has my brain feeling all fuzzy. In any case, there is a lot of personal tragedy in the news lately. Enough so I'm kind of feeling like I just want to unplug and stop hearing about any of it...

"They" have been told for months now that white cops were killing innocent black people without any backlash. "They" have provided that backlash.

To me this is a case of sensationalist media causing a real problem when they were trying to get ratings or advance an agenda (however you look at it).

The sad part is that there probably are bad cops out there, who are now even more well protected and even more empowered to be bad cops.

The problem is just getting worse.

People complain about police shooting people.

Just stop giving police a reason.

It must be terrifying to be a cop in America right now. Every time they pull someone over they sweat and worry that they may be shot, so they are extremely jumpy, which means they make mistakes. Up here it would take five minutes to unstrap the gun, and point it at someone. Down there apparently the gun is already out for a routine traffic stop?

berkeley the right to bear arms. Just start crushing guns. Or how about if you still have the right to bear arms, if only you could actually find one? I'd like a Mercedes 300sl and it's legal for me to have one, but they didn't make very many and they are really expensive. So I probably won't get one.

As a Canadian I am tired of listening to this E36 M3 and I will never understand.

In 10 days, the Republican National Convention happens in Cleveland, OH. The event is about 1 hour away from my house. I want nothing to do with it and wont go near. It is already planned to be a "Police State" with Federal jurisdiction to a large geography surrounding the building.
I imagine now, this will now be "Police State times X"

TV news coming out of Cleveland is already speculating that there will not be enough regular Cleveland Police in regular Cleveland neighborhoods to handle typical daily workload given the focus on the Convention District.

From a more local note, all 600+ delegates from California will he staying 3-4 miles from my house at the Largest Indoor Waterpark in the US. The reason being that California wanted to have all delegates at one hotel and then have meeting space that could additionally serve all 600.
I still don't like it.

No, not at all. But I can see how you might get that impression from the way things are covered in the media these days.

I think it's safe to say that tensions are high on both sides of the "cops vs. minorities" divide.

All I'm gonna say is I agree the media is part of the problem, and has failed us.

Every time they call a serial killing sociopath a "mastermind" I want to throw a hammer at my TV.

I agree that the media has a lot to do with this. I am very glad I got out of broadcast news when I did. Chasing ratings is never very good, and even though I worked at a little pipsqueak local station that was always overshadowed by the philly stations, they still tried to tailor their stories go get the most "eyes"

I would put forth that these events are just going to have to be accepted as the "New Normal" since they serve a valuable purpose for several groups.

And while firearms do play a role, I would look to a frayed social fabric as the root cause. America has a LOT of pissed-off people who are itching for a fight or for someone to fight for them.

Good read that kind of forecast a lot of this back in 1968 was Stand on Zanzibar:

The concept of "Muckers" is all to real.

And under the heading of "Dressing for success" It may be time to look into civilian Kevlar Fashion-Wear as a business.

What? Covering the fact that unarmed people, whether black or not, are being shot and killed police?

35 Unarmed people. 22 with Toy Weapons. 88 with knives. 124 with known mental illness.

I don't care if they are black, white, or green, shooting unarmed people is a pretty big deal.

Canadians can own guns, however there are restrictions.

Canada does not have a gun culture like the US. We don't understand this aspect of the US and most folks from the US don't understand our distaste of the gun culture. Most of us never will and you likely won't understand our position.

Other than that we both are pretty good neighbours with each other and we wish you the best.

RIP and condolences from me to the families and friends of the Dallas officers. I have a brother who is a police officer and when this story came out last night, I just about threw up.
