Letterman owns the late night programming at CBS (via his Worldwide Pants production company) just like Lorne Michaels now owns the late night talk shows on NBC..

i just read that Craig Ferguson has the first right of refusal, since he already works for David Letterman's production company. i'd bet on him getting a shot, with Chelsea Handler taking his old slot... then if the ratings don't look good after a token period of time, they'll give it to either Colbert or Stewart- or both by keeping them together like they are now, only on broadcast tv.

i think he'd be good- i used to not like him, then i watched him a bit and started to "get" his bit and i think it would go over well in an earlier time slot..

I freakin' detest, no, I HATE Howard Stern. My grandmother had better comedy timing. So you can rest assured if he were to take that slot (not bloody likely IMHO) I would not bother to watch it.

Exactly the reason why I didn't watch (NO. Hate) Leno, and exactly the reason why they should hire Stern!!

Hope "OHSCrifle" post didn't upset you...

OHSCrifle said: LOL at the little curmudgeon reference. I dropped Sirius a couple years ago after listening to him on and off since 1988.. Wonder what he is up to sometimes. I think he would do the late show justice.. A great interviewer. But I don't see it happening.

I don't hate him, but think he's uninteresting and unfunny. Fortunately, Stern has already said he's not interested in taking over the show.

You are winning sir, Colbert will be taking over for Letterman.

The good news, the Colbert show wasn't cancelled after the "Ching-Chong Ding-Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever" segment, and the "Who's attacking me now" rant is something I look forward to The Tonight Show.

I like the Colbert show and am worried it will change too much to fit into broadcast TV...

I really don't know if they could tame him to be honest, they might run out of "Bleep" fluid or something...

Colbert claims he plays a character.
Will the Colbert Show be going to that time slot?
Will the character Colbert be sitting in Dave's chair?
or
Will the real Colbert be sitting in Dave's chair? If yes to the last, what will the real Colbert be like?

I find it very unlikely Colbert will do it in character. I am pretty sure he will be as goofy and energetic as he currently is, he just won't feign the "ultra-conservative" thing. Honestly, he really doesn't do that too much in his current show anyway. Mostly just quips he throws in now and then.

From what I have seen of some of his interviews, he seems to be VERY quick with his wit and generally very smart, so I suspect he will fit in just fine.

It is a bit sad that his mom just missed seeing him rise to "the big show"

Here is a sly move or perhaps the coup de grace.
Just last month, Colbert was a guest on Fallon's new show.

As you may see in this clip, Colbert delivers better as a "straight man" and even though it is Fallon's bit, Colbert really runs the bit. For this dual, Colbert for the win.
