In reply to PHeller:

Been making my own deodorant for about 2 months. Arrowroot, baking soda, and coconut oil. Works as well as the Gillette gel stuff my wife was buying me.

Qft.

Shaving or trimming works wonders.

99% of the store stuff doesn't work for me, but Mitchum does.

foxtrapper wrote: Mitchum is the only one I can buy at a department store that kinda works for me. Otherwise, it's prescription. That does work. Shaving your pits makes them stink less.

The only thing that works for me is Sure aerosol. I've tried almost everything else and that is the only thing that works. I'm very allergic almost any soap or detergent but this doesn't bother me.

I used to have terrible pit sweat and subsequent stains. Went all the way up to the nuclear (prescription) option to no avail. Then I got away from antiperspirants into just deodorant. No problems for about a decade. I use either the old-school Old Spice original deodorant (the kind that used to come in the round tube) or a Tom's Of Maine hippie deodorant, both of which work equally well.

Granted, if I do any physical work with the ambient temperature above about 45°F I sweat like a whore in church, but my pits are no longer the concentrated source they used to be. Rather, it's a more evenly-dispersed flood.

Most store bought antiperspirants all have the same active ingredient.

Anyone creeped out by the chemicals and stuff used in deodorant that we apply to a highly porous area of our bodies daily for a lifetime?

word up

I haven't used anything since after high school. consume 90% vegetarian diet, no red meat, fast food, minimal dairy. use Dr Bronners for bathing and the subtle fragrance stays with you for a long time.

If you've got real bad stank there's likely something off with your body chemistry.

And here I thought I was the only guy here to shave his armpits to keep the smell down. Works for me. Just be aware of stubble.

I quit using all of the antiperspirants and just use deodorant these days. Either Tom's or Arm & Hammer Free. I think impulsive has it nailed... I've changed the way I eat, I drink a gallon+ of water every day and I exercise a lot more than I did when the stank was an issue. I still sweat like it's my super-power but it doesn't stink like it used to.

Or maybe my nose isn't working

Yeah, that will do it. I used to play indoor soccer some evenings and one of the days there was field hockey right before us. They stank like nothing else

To those of you who don't think you stink any more, you probably do, you just don't smell it. I work and have worked with many people who don't think they stink, every one of them does. From believing their pits don't stink, to believing their poo doesn't either.

Ha!

I had an employer over 15 years ago who bought one of those salt crystals that are supposed to inhibit bacterial growth to stop smell and last forever. Its only effect seemed to be convincing him that he didn't smell. I remember a client of ours taking him aside and saying "Mike, whatever you are using for deodorant is really letting you down" to which he replied "no I use this crystal thing. It kills the bacteria and I don't smell"

Crazy thing how everyone around him could tell him he stunk, but he wouldn't believe it. Placebo effect is strong.

I use independent testing to ensure quality scent. If I have any hint of human scent on me at all my wife goes off like police responding to a shooting at an elementary school.

I stopped using all those antiperspirant, roll-ons, aerosol stuff years ago. Moved over to this Aluminium Chrystal Rock and worked nice. Lasted a looong time. Track, Wrenching, Gym... Etc... DRY.. Now, I moved over to this Organic Spray, EO Brand that with one squirt, I'm done for the day. Picked it up at "Whole Paycheck Market".. Go get some and never look back..
