I certainly don't take them serious, but I do find it entertaining to see how they can force cars into the storyline where they make almost no sense.  I expect cars in space eventually.

They do tend do a good job at getting a combination of classic and super / hypercars in the movies.

Thank you for reminding me that I haven't seen FFFFFFFFast and FFFFFFFFurious or whatever the 8th one is called. I need to see tank vs submarine.

That's an industrial sized vat of nope for me.

Former villain/hero retires to quiet rural life working on tractors, only to be drawn into a conflict with his previously unknown brother.  WOW, I DID NOT SEE THAT ONE COMING.  frown

Sounds super familiar but from where? Lol

I love how they went from Street Racers to the most capable humans ever.

Especially considering most "street racers" I've met can't spell "brakes" correctly.

These stopped being car movies and became superhero movies a long, long time ago. Not saying it's a bad thing, just that we have to stop judging them as car movies.

Wait, there was one that could be called a car movie? smiley yes, the do have cars in them. usually cool cars. but...

Also, dang, the franchise is now 20 years old.

The 6 year old dsm I would have driven to the premiere qualified for collector plates. Last year.

Second cringiest scene of the entire franchise lives here, narrowly losing to Brian calling roman "cuh" in 2f2f.

The first one was definitely based in car culture. Maybe not realistically, but it was the setting. Same with the 2nd and 3rd, I think. It gets fuzzy.

I'm sure there a Meryl Streep period piece that's more to your liking out there.

Thanks for the condescension. Some of us just like movies to be a little more loosely based on workable physics and a smidge of reality. This franchise has just bastardized car culture for 20 years.

Actually yes, Julie/Julia was a fantastic piece about Julia Childs, and Meryl did a fantastic job in it.

I think the last F&F movie I saw was 4. Something about Vin Diesel, I just want to slug him. I don't know why, or what it is, but he's got a really punchable face and because of that I can't really stand anything he's in. Also part of why Tokyo Drift was my favorite of the franchise, cause Toretto was a no show.

I don't think I've seen the previous two or three.  Do I need to watch them to understand the plot of this one?

What plot?  These things have a plot?

They are silly, but great fun.

The earlier ones were better. The longer these things go on, the less believable they are.  It's a train wreck.  Like watching Stampie and Frenchy arguing about BBCs and Jag V12s.

The series jumped awhile ago, and I think it's just fine if that is the expectation. Completely ridiculous and I love it.

Superhero/action movies with a dose of interesting cars. At face value, they're a fun watch.

No, really, speaking as a fan of both superheroes and cars, THEY'RE NOT.

Guess I should have posted this here instead of the memes thread:

Plus - and I may be in the minority here - excessively skinny women with excessively fake boobs really aren't my thing.

And the cars in the movies are just the vehicular equivalent of that, on top of all the plastic bimbos.  No, thanks.

Meh. I don't think car culture has been damaged in the slightest. In fact, I think it is stronger than ever.

Now there is a new segment of car culture, which is strong and growing. Not a segment I want to follow, but still a segment of car culture.

When I was a kid I liked big cartoonish cars with massive spinning wheels and gawdy paint jobs. Now I like tasteful classics and vintage road racers.  It's all part of growing up.

But I'm sure glad Radwood is part of car culture.

It was more the fake plastic part that I was objecting to, not (just) the proportions.

I will watch it as soon as I can.  I love the franchise and trashy movies in general.  I am a complete sucker for these movies, Bruckheimer flicks from every era (New TopGun? Oh YEAH!), Rambo (I went to Chicago in 2008 to watch the release of Rambo with a friend and he returned the favor by flying to PA for the release of Rambo Last Blood). If its action filled brain candy, Im in.  I don't care about whatever wacky situation Will Ferrell/Seth Rogan/Kevin Hart has found themselves in for the Latest Comedy, but you slap a human GI Joe or a rag-tag group of misfits in a situation in which only they can save the day, and Im in!  We have seen most of the F&Fs opening weekend in the theater.  We even went to see the spin off where The Rock and The Transporter had to team up against Charles Miner.  2 thumbs up on that one! Long lost brother? Han returns? Butter my popcorn and sneak in some Reese's 'cause we are heading to the drive-in!

I tried going through an "Art House" phase when I was a college student but after falling asleep during Waking Life in the theater, something my wife STILL makes fun of me for because she did NOT want to go to it and I dragged her anyway talking about how "deep" or whatever buzzwords early 20s Logdog used to convince her, that phase ended fast (and furious).

I know they are dumb unrealistic movies.  Just like I know Flaming Hot Cheetos are not health food.  But I still love them both!

I enjoy unrealistic hero movies, but I find myself bothered sometimes by the disregard for physics, if I understand the physics.  I'm confident that a chef watching a movie about chefs would go nuts watching the guy on the screen ruin the hollandaise while romancing the fetching young waitress.  F&F is like that for me with cars.

I'm pretty good with unrealistic movies, although there is a Star Wars thing with the closeness of solar systems that bothers me...

Just remember in those Victorian romance movies, that during all those kissing and humping scenes, people of that time did not brush their teeth and rarely bathed.... just be thankful there is no smellovision.
