I wonder if the octane of the gasoline is down graded and lets the alcohol bring it backup to the rated octane.
The higher octane is of no use unless the engine is modified for it.
Methanol used in race cars is nothing new and the problems that go with it are still there. Ethanol is not as corrosive and is more benign. which helps.

No it isn't.

Tell that to me valve seals.

How much are they paying you?
ThePhranc wrote: Tell that to me valve seals.
Hello ThePhranc's valve seals. Ethanol is not responsible for you breaking down, unless there is some definition of "responsible" other than the one generally accepted.

How much do they subsidize the oil industry? There is room here for an honest difference of opinion. Personally, I'd like to see the government subsidize oil a lot less- like none- and alternative fuels more. I'd also like to see them cut back on their subsidization of our infrastructure surrounding personal vehicles and invest more in subsidization of mass transit. But I don't think it's fair to say any alternative to the status quo has to make it all on it's own while we spend trillions propping up the oil infrastructure.

I'm drinking it right now

He says to the guy who builds cylinder heads for a living. That's a new one on me.

we'd call it "Maize" then... :)
Don't really have a problem running it my cars although I have noticed a decrease in mpg's with it and have not noticed any improvements in power. It kinda seems like they add ethonal to increase the octane and call it the higher octane. Prefer not to run it in my 1970 Opel GT but will once in a while when non-ethonal isn't readily available. My major concern about running it in the Opel is the fuel lines and what ethonal could do to them. Run it in my lawn equipment because that is what is readily available and lesser cost. I do have a Murray rider mower and a Ryobi weedeater that needs new carbs to run. I do blame that partially on ethonal, at least that it accelerated the wear in the carbs. I've been told its the seals in the carbs that get ate up by the ethonal.

That's another thing i wonder... has the available stock gotten crappy enough/we're trying to use as absolutely much of it as possible for motor fuel that we're making do with low octane fuel and bolstering it with ethanol.
Gasoline sure as hell smells a lot different than it did 10-20 years ago.
