It's a .22LR 597. BSA Sweet 22 scope. Harris bipod.

I'm very impressed so far with the Sweet 22. It's total overkill (on the fly adjustments for 36gr, 38gr, and 40gr), and it's optically crisp.

As for a GRM shooting club, we should steal an idea from The High Road and have contests where people put up a photo of their target results from a .22 rifle from 50 yards.

nice score, i'm sure it shoots excellent. i'll be down for some GRM shooting competitions. honestly, i prefer talking guns on GRM to places like rimfirecentral or AR15.com because those guys seem to be so judgemental and jump all over people if they don't buy top dollar equipment from the best brands. i ran across a guy basically getting called a moron for buying a BSA scope the other day, just didn't leave me feeling like i could post anything on there.

I just picked up a few classics, a post modern and a diesel tow truck by these standards.

SKS, Mosin Nagant, 6.5 Jap, a 22 with scope and a Mossberg 590

Can't wait to try them out.

aussie what model mosin did you pick up? Have you looked up the date and where it was manufactured yet? I'm still on the hunt for a fin but I'm settling for my Russian M44 for now. What type of .22? I have a 590 as well it is a great defense gun. Sounds like you are working on a good little collection there.

I would be up for doing a 50 yard target comp with you guys. Heck maybe even push things and we can do 100 yard ones as well. Though would it be open ammo or best you can get from a bulk box?

I have to agree with Strizzo talking guns and shooting with you guys is fun. On many of the dedicated forums they treat you like dirt if you aren't spending more than a challenge budget for your guns. Granted my little Marlin I bought for like $60 could more than likely hold its own with many of those $1000+ guns when put in the right hands, that puppy is a little tack driver for sure.

I just received my "payment" for building a second a second 10/22, its a Remington 597 .22 Magnum with a black and gray laminate stock, Bushnell Trophy 4-12 x40 scope and a bipod. I was also given two boxes of shells (CCI varmint rounds) and a new in package 30rd AR magazine .

I will post a pic of it tomorrow.

The parts will hopefully arrive this week (though some may not come until the following week) so when they do I will post up a pic of that rifle and mine with its new stock that is coming.

nicely done rebelgtp. i've been keeping an eye out for a 17hmr or 22mag at the local pawn shop to add to the collection, but haven't had any luck yet. i've been trying to decide between something like that or a remington 870, since i don't yet have a shotgun, and it would be a great "beside the bed" gun.

Just curious- will a .22 long CB cycle in a 10/22? How about an Aquila SSS?

Strizzo
Strizzo SuperDork
1/10/11 12:50 p.m.

the Aquila SSS will definitely, it uses the same or close powder load as a HV round, but the larger bullet makes for a slower muzzle velocity.

i'm not sure if the CB long will cycle the 10/22, but regular subsonic ammo will reliably ('regular' subsonic being roughly 950fps, CB long advertizes 750fps). i've used remington subsonic as its the only SS ammo at the academy around the corner, and it works just fine. there is a company that sells a bolt lock for the 10/22 to turn it into a single shot for people wanting to shoot super colibri or similar rounds. they also sell low power recoil springs for other low velocity rounds as well.

the SSS stuff will for sure as Strizzo mentioned. I have tried a CB long in my older 10/22 and it did not cycle the action at all. As for regular subsonics I have had hit or miss if it will cycle the action though this is on an older action that is fairly stiff compared to the new ones. On this new action I don't think that there would be a problem.

Here is the Remington 597 .22 Mag. Sadly it only came with the original plastic mag not the updated metal ones so I went to my shop and had them order a couple for me.

how do you guys like the 597? I worked at remington when they were releasing them in .17hmr, but did not get a chance to try one. I worked mostly on shotgun barrels.

When you work there you can buy the engineering test guns and other scratch and dent stock at a very low price. All the .22's they had available at the time were dale earnhardt Jr guns.. I couldn't bring myself to buy one.. Even if it was for like $60.

Heck you should have bought one and swapped the stock with a Boyds.

I have yet to fire this 597 yet so I will let you know. I do have to say I love the fit of the full size rifle over the smaller stock 10/22.

super colibri are even lower power than the CB rounds. they don't have any powder, just the primer as the propellant with like a 20gr bullet. they won't cycle a semiauto obviously, and they are not recommended for long guns because they might not have enough power to get down the barrell. they list a muzzle velocity of something like 550 fps, and muzzle energy of i think 20 ft/lbs. the cb longs have a larger bullet and at least a little powder, and list 750 fps muzzle velocity.

well, i've added another to the collection. today i picked up a marlin model 25nm in 22 magnum from the local pawn shop. it has a walnut or birch stock thats kinda beat up, but i'm thinking this might be a good one to take a shot at refinishing, since its already a bit beat up, so i can't do much worse.

actual pics later tonight, looks like this, but with a smaller 3-7 x 15 (i think) scope on it.

very nice I can't wait to see the pics. I would much rather have the .22 Mag rifle in bolt action than an auto but oh well

Oh yeah I'm also keeping my eyes out for an Enfield No.4 that is either a broken stock or been bubbaed. My goal is to build a sniper rifle using the Enfield action and mating it with a modified 700 bull barrel and reworking the trigger group. Then I think the optics for it will be a nice basic Bushnell Elite 3200 10x scope.

VERY nice

Things are warming up here a bit though its now pouring rain. I have three days off this weekend so maybe I will get a chance to go up and issue a reply.

I was bored the other night and bore sighted all of my rifles with scopes. The Weatherby was dead nuts on, the Marlin was off but where I expected it from shooting and my standard correction, the 10/22 was decent for a just mounted scope, and the new 597 was off the freakin chart.

If I go up I will try with the 597 and the 10/22.

Oh also how were you shooting? Prone, bench, off hand or?

well, here is the first crap cellphone pic.

i 'think' the stock is walnut and is really nice with plenty of character where its not scratched or dented. its actually in a bit better shape than i thought it was, but still looks like it rode around most of its life behind the bench seat in someones truck. the front sling swivel looks like its stripped out, and the rear one in well off center on the buttplate. still can't wait to get it out and see how it shoots.

the place i picked this up from was the same place that has the enfield that someone tossed the rear peep sight off of and replaced with a dovetail scope mount and $20 red dot air rifle optic. they wouldn't go lower than 150, so i moved on, and happened to find this one. they had about a half dozen various .22LR guns in the rack, but i was looking for a 22 mag or 17, if they end up with a 17hmr i'll bring that one home too. don't believe what the guy behind the counter says, a lot of them won't read the tag any farther than "22", and most don't know there's a difference between 22LR and 22 magnum.

Grrr I am not happy. I got home today and there was a package on my porch as expected from Boyds. I get it in and open it, and I pull the first stock, it is the black stock for the girl friend's step dad, looks good nice and comfy it is the first of his parts to arrive. Now I pull the second stock it should be a tan stock for my Ruger. Nope its not tan and its not even for the Ruger!! It is a stock for a CZ and not even the same model of stock I ordered. Oh and of course they are now closed for the weekend, the long weekend I am not happy.

On a happier note my shop got the 597 mags in for me (no one had magnum mags in town) and I also picked up some of the hotter .22 mag ammo including some polymer tip stuff.

had to do some adjusting on the magazine, the fit was loose on the guide, and it was feeding rounds low of the chamber. some adjusting and it feeds smooth every time.
