Is that the arch in St Louis? It took me about 10 looks to figure out what the reflection was of. I thought for the longest time it was the Washington monument with a double image.

It's the St Louis arch, one of the most amazing structures I've seen. Well worth stopping and getting up close if you ever find yourself driving through, or in the area.

Here's another look at it, but twenty years later with very different technology.

Cell phone cameras are simply amazing. Especially compared to my first digital camera. IIRC it was something like .3 MP compared to 200 MP out of an S23 Ultra.

A photo from Film Day–a friend and I met up at some botanical gardens to make photos with our film cameras.

This was shot with a Canon EOS Elan IIE that I bought new in the late ’90s as a backup and never used since we went digital soon after. Really dig the camera. The controls feel surprisingly modern.

Film is Fuji 400. Lens is a Canon 100 f/2.8 macro.

Shot on Fuji. The red pops more than expected. Very happy with all the colors, in fact.

I like that.

Reds are the worst to shoot.  For some reason carmakers keep making red cars. It's like they didn't get the memo.

Here's something with no red. Shot with the kit lens that came with my old D40. And also the D40 that came with the lens.

Now I wish I'd stopped. This is the best I could manage headed west in the interstate.

I will say it's one of those things that you think you can get the feel for by seeing it from a distance, but getting up close there's a whole set of sensations you won't get from a distance. The reflection really is blinding when the sun hits it right, and the whole thing is warm and kind of vibrates as the wind passes through it. And then your hands smell pleasantly of stainless steel. It's a whole experience.

And now for something completely different:
