I know NS was pointing the finger at Amtrak, saying that a joint traffic impact study had to be done, and NS was saying Amtrak stepped away and never did their part of the study.

I'm guessing that's due to Amtrak needing to access NS trackage in Mobile?

It needs to hop onto Norfolk Southern's ex-CNO&TP tracks at East City Junction to get into the New Orleans terminal. I'm sure part of the reason NS is getting involved in the whole argument because whatever happens here could set a precedent for when they revive Amtrak service in Kentucky and Tennessee

The Sunbeam, a streamlined Dallas-Houston daily passenger train, operated by Southern Pacific subsidiary Texas & New Orleans Railroad. It used three P-14 Pacifics that were semi-streamlined and painted to match those famed Southern Pacific GS-4 4-8-4s

The #706 is in full T&P regalia, with flanged stack, shielded air pumps on the pilot deck, diamond-shaped T&P herald on the smokebox top, silvered smokebox, and dark blue boiler jacket and tender with an ivory stripe.

The Sunbeam is a great looking train! From a time when the railroads used to maintain their equipment. Or, at least, wash them!

A color photo of an N-3 at Spokane, showing the Glacier Green boiler jacketing, black running gear, and graphited smokebox that GN applied to them.

That's a thing of beauty. Any idea when this photo was taken?

According to the caption: "One of Great Northern's handsome 2-8-8-0 Consolidation Mallets, #2012 (N-3), is seen here on a September day in 1951 after just leaving the Hillyard Shops in Spokane, Washington before being transferred to the Minot Division. Built in 1940 by GN shop forces, she had previously worked the Inside Gateway on the Klamath Division between Bend, Oregon and Bieber, California where freight was interchanged with the Western Pacific."

Four Southern Railway E8As lead a very healthy-looking Crescent at Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The red and white decals on the fireman's side are for the USA Bicentennial and are in honor of southern signatories of the Declaration of Independence.

Mississippian Railway #76 switches boxcars at a cotton mill in Smithville, MS. The coonskin number plate on the 2-8-0 is a giveaway of it's Frisco heritage. The Mississippian owned two such Consolidations, the #76 and the #77, and was run by two brothers. The #76 belonged to one brother, the #77 to the other, and when whichever engine was in operation, the other brother would act as fireman. The duties of master mechanic, conductor, brakeman, and general manager was filled by the two brothers' father.
