ahh, that makes sense. I need to put one together tonight... after I spend $1M fixing my furai... (engine and chassis are both right at 500k each!)

Well, I have tried out the Volvo, the Integra and the Eclipse:
The Volvo and Integra are pretty similar in times. The Integra is lighter, but the Volvo has more power and a much wider power band. The Eclipse has a tiny bit more power than the Volvo, is a bit lighter, but is a total nose heavy pig. It doesn't show weight distribution in the game, but the stock spring settings should give a good idea and that thing is Jimmy Durante on wheels!
I am probably going to go Integra or Volvo at this point but I need to do some more testing on different tracks.
Either way, they handle like butt! You have to do some strange stuff to make them go around corners. Full on 90 deg slides from braking can be recovered from just by giving it some gas though. Go into a corner to fast... you are plowing like an International Harvester!
Do those big stupid rear wings even have ANY effect on these cars? I mean, the last thing I am worried about is the rear end braking loose in these things. It seems like the old maxim might be true: "slows the car down enough so that they will have no effect anyway:
I have also discovered (when I am driving cars I actually enjoy driving) that the 911 Yellow Bird actually retains it's wild oversteer characteristics even with soft race tires. This is not the case with the later style RUF CTR (different rear suspension is doing it's work here). That thing will just barely oversteer with race tires.
"Hi, I'm Jimmy Durante, and I'm here to talk to you about the new Eclipse for 1993..."
Network still down, till end of month.. maybe.
Mine cars have some seriously wonky setups that make for some interesting acrobatics. I am considering using one of those 90 deg slides as a corner entry technique for tight corners.

It's slammed all the way down, handles great, but dislikes bumps. Ran an 8:03 the lap after this, just rebuilt the engine and chassis and tossed on a wing to get the top speed higher than 145 on the straight, I should hit 8 minutes flat.
LOL....nice PT Cruiser.
@aircooled, since I picked a FWD car for the current SBC season, I've been dealing with that all season. In the Marcos I use the E brake to get the car to rotate when I enter a corner too fast. It works pretty well. Doesn't seem to work as well in the Volvo.
I've made up my mind, after shelling out a buttload of credits T&T'ing a bunch, to go with the Volvo C30. I've played a few cars on a couple different tracks, and it keeps being the best thing I can drive.
I hope this doesn't turn out to be a Spec C30 class. Looks like that will be a popular car. I tuned up a Civic 1500 most of the way just to see what a lighter weight car can do, but in my limited testing the gains from lighter weight don't overcome the power disadvantage. I've got a decent collection of cars waiting to mod and try out though between now and when the next season starts, so I may change my pick away from the C30 if I can find something that suits me.
I am running a Focus, so there will be at least 1 non-Volvo in the group. It may be the back of the group.
Incidentally, that is why I've always put limits on HP and weight. I try to find a range where many cars are competitive, so even if the car you like can't max out at the same as the other cars, it should be able to operate in the range and be competitive. The other route has been to use Comfort tires, then there is a penalty to be served for too much power (drive my GT500 and you'll understand). The noisier members decried both of those methods and proclaimed that FWD would be enough of a limiter. We'll see. I'll probably put my primary focus on the Z06, and then worry with the Hatch.
I don't see the power limiting of the FWD either. Sure, slow corners can be an issue, but once you have any speed, not an issue. More power is going to win the day in general I think. Most of these track are pretty big realistically. If we ran the series on Autumn Ring Mini, the story might be different.
I am currently able to do pretty good with the Integra, so I might pick that one just to be different (if it looks like it will be a Volvo fest). If I have time, I will probably look at the Focus and Civic.
I was a bit disappointed (and relieved for my wrists) that GT5 does not seem to simulate torque steer. These cars should have it by the butt load, and would make them a lot harder to drive. Unless I am missing something, mechanical posi should not eliminate torque steer.
I'm not going to run the Lolvo, nor will i run the EP @ 410hp. It's not faster than the Celica @ 295hp.
I'm not convinced the Lolvo is the fastest, either. I can't seem to get into the 1:35s at Trial Mountain with it.
Don't worry TJ, i'm not selling out, i'll be in the back having fun with my enthusiasts car, the Alfa hahaha
I kept my choice ever since over 2 weeks ago, damn you guys get serious LOL....kidding guys, jeez

Idle hands...
I could have put a lot of research into the various cars, but decided with no restrictions that I would just run the car I wanted and see how I fared. That and finally put the Black Ops disc in my PS3.
haha ^
I must be the only one in the world that is bored with Blops lol broke out the Underground 2! what what!!

I'll be back with you in my 106. It's so much more fun than my Clio that I've decided to use it, even though the Renault is bout 2 seconds faster anywhere I test em.
I think I am going to go with a '97 Civic type R (EK). At Deep Forest I am within a seconf of my best time in the Volvo, but it is more fun to drive. I like the sounds and it is a lot lighter so I can get a little air in two places. Why drive when you can fly?
I have not modded my DC5 integra. That is next on my list. I would like to have the Spoon Civic just to compare even if it is not eligible.
I am going to go with a RM ZR1 for the vette series though. Mine is passionate pink right now with disgusting day glo greenish yellow wheels.
Guess what I found out last night!
All of my competitive cars are around 400-500 PP. At 600, the fastest car I have is an understeering, 611hp, Srt4.
Everything else was either too slow or had to be modified down.
Grizz, me too. I ended up running a ZZII with a lot of limiter and in need of an oil change. My RM Camaro was more fun, but slower. I have a few others that would've been good, but they didn't have racing soft tires. 600 was a tough PP level for me. Until I saw your SRT4, I didn't even realize those cars were in the game. I found a room Sunday morning that was a 400 PP room - that was way more intersting to me - lots of different cars including a guy runnng a combi bus.
