Yes... I really wanna make my own insoles.
A little over six months ago I came down w/ a nasty heel spur, tried to work through it but eventually conceded and received the shot from the podiatrist and been wearing prescription insoles. The results have been so so, most days are bearable but some require a little help from 6-800 mg's of Ibuprofin.
The insoles were made from a custom mold of my feet, mostly they provide arch support but include a relief in the center of the heels. Carbon fiber makes up most of the arch and heel area for support w/ some rubber in the heel area for shock absorption.
I was impressed w/ the CF and custom molding but at $360 out of pocket cost... a little disillusioned. This one pair will eventually wear out, no word on reasonable replacement cost from the maker.
GRM time.... had the thought that since the custom profile of my feet was already 'engineered' I could duplicate the profile w/ the same or alternative material in my shop. I'd want to add cushioning to the insoles, particularly in the arch area but they should remain resilient and retain their shape and support.
Material-wise: I thought of ballistic gelatin but never used it before. Perma-Gel, a similar product is non-toxic and anti-bacterial.. so plus there. I'm sure there are multitudes of materials out there y'all have run across before. Help a brotha' out and shorten my R&D time. I'm confident I could make the molds necessary to pull this off.
Any GRM ideas out there?
