I week before the season starts... plenty of open spots in every class available.
Even if you are not sure your car choice yet, let me know you are interested so I can get the roster complete.
Thanks!

Add me to the list but I am in the same boat as TECHNYK. Wife says no early christmas presents. I will be more than happy to play catch up though just to be able to run with true racers and not bashers. My PS ID is sj6071 and I will more than likely run in the GRM class. Thanks Scott
I'm in a different predicament, due to my finals/xmas travel schedule i may only be able to make races on and off until the end of january, So i'll be out of the points running but i still want to be a part of this, but only if I don't take anyone elses spot. If you have openings that nobody else needs i'm in, and i'll pm you when i figure out class/car choices
CM is going to be an interesting class. I was running some practice laps last night and tested two completely different cars: GT350R (heavily tuned) and an Europa (minor engine mods). The difference in HP was about 225 to the favor of the Shelby. After about 10 laps in each car at Laguna Seca, my lap times were less than a second apart. Of course, that might be more of a indication of my (lack of) driving ability than anything else. I am planning on being a back-marker in CM!
Don't worry about missing races, I think everyone who has registered has said the same thing, and it looks like I might missed the start of round 2. Once it gets closer, if I am going to miss it, I'll need someone to host it and provide a screenshot of the results.
And just to get your mind going, here are the cars I am planning on running: GRM - 1999 Honda S2000 G600 - 2000 Corvette (C5) Z06 CM - 1965 Shelby GT350R (or the 1971 Lotus Europa)
You do have the ABS turned off right? That is what will make it very interesting. It's really easy to make mistakes (especially in a mid or rear engined). One reason I didn't go with the Europa was the braking difficulties. The other was, any tiny tap or rub in a corner will put it around.... I will do my best to avoid you.
A good bit of advice if you haven't figured it out yet, set you brake balance way forward to keep the rear end from coming around. For some reason all cars have brake balance controllers stock.
I vote at least make ABS off a requirement for CM, maybe not for the other classes, but definitely for CM.

Rules are... all driver aids off. This includes ABS, ASM, TCS, Driving Line, etc
I've actually had better control braking in the Europa, I put it down to carrying less speed into the corners and not having other cars on track.
The no ABS will make it fun. On some of these tracks with similar cars it can be very hard to pass cleanly. Difficult braking will make mistakes a lot more common and passing a lot easier. Of course it also might make ramming more common...
Can I join mid-season if there are still spots left?
I won't have GT5 or a PS3 until 12/25.
Thanks, T.J.
Updates:
If you want to race, PM me there are plenty of spots available.
So what is the procedure? Will you be adding everyone as fiends then open a friends only lounge? Will you be posting the (ridiculously long) room number so we can find it?
I am curious to see what the lag might be since we are likely spread across the country. I have seen some lag online and it is pretty freaky (car jumping all over the place). I am on the west coast with a very fast connection (FiOS).
Not sure if I can make it tonight, but I will be there at some point.
Oh, the other thing I was going to mention was maybe we should establish some basic rules (courtesies really).
Obviously no rough driving, but what if you accidentally punt someone off the course? Maybe the "punter" has to wait for the "puntie" to return to the course and follow behind them for at least 1/2 a lap?
Pull to the right to allow faster cars past?
Multiple horn honks to protest a move... one honk to apologize.
How about safe passing? How do we define? I have never done any real door to door racing, so I am not familiar with the standards. At what point can you cut in on someone under braking (as in, almost all the passing in F1)? It can be very hard to see cars beside you, so realizing when someone has position on you under braking might be difficult.
Either way, I don't expect mayhem, I am just thinking some basic standards might want to be laid out.
I sent everyone that had registered a friend request, you should have it.
I am actually about to start up the room and will now...
Room...
As far as clean racing, I've turned on penalties and damage. Hopefully bad racing will penalize itself.
This will be my first online race, so if the setup doesn't work this way, we can make changes.
GRM Class race just completed, congrats to ManBearSTIG for dominating the race!
CM class starting now, same online room!
Good racing last night, could use more drivers on the grid though.
Round 1 Results:
If you think you can drive, you should attempt the CM Class cars.
Some observations:
GTP_Spyhunter blew everyone away in the first race. I think it is pretty clear he actually practiced the car/track and set his car up carefully (what a concept).
GT5 has a pretty punishing damage system. I had not experienced it previously (not high enough level), but if you tap a wall good enough (and you don't have to be going that fast) you car will drive like crap. I spent the last lap of the CM class with the wheel vibrating madly in my hands (I thought it was silly to pull into the pits before the last lap). There were a number of pits stops involved in both races!
High HP RWD cars with crap tires and no aids are hard as hell to drive in GT5. You have to be VERY smooth on the throttle and steering and VERY careful when braking. Anyone still saying the GT driving model is soft has to try this series. It reminded me a lot of Enthusia, but the cornering seemed to be a lot slower. Braking without almost totally coming off the brakes when you get real slow and having any turn input would pretty much guarantee a nice tight spin even with a lot of front brake bias (this seems a bit overdone to me). Perhaps we are exploring the edges of the GT5 model, it's probably more optimized for high performance sticky tire setups.
High HP RWD cars with crap tires can also make for some very good racing once we get a few more out there. There are AMPLE opportunities to pass because of mistakes and less then perfect driving! It will get pretty crazy on a tighter track.
We might want to make the CM class races a bit shorter, we were kind of crawling around the track.
I noticed at one point that BradLTL's car was a ghost to me (I could drive right through him). Maybe this was because I had lapped him? GTP (he did a lot of lapping) did you notice the same thing?

Nope, that was because of driver error. I over-cooked it into the brake zone and thought I was going to punt you. I am guess GT5 has some safety measures to prevent drivers from T-boning each other.
I support the shorter CM races. 50%? It was tough. Once I lost my rhythm and ran into the wall the first time, I couldn't get it back.
Learned that I need to invest in a LSD for my car. If I dropped a wheel off the track I would light up 1 rear tire. That made very difficult driving nearly impossible until the tire stabilized again. Once my front tires got worn my braking zone nearly doubled.
There's nothing to make a car ghost, other than lag, in GT5. Public lobbies are full of guys turning around and driving the wrong way in GT5, just so they can ruin other peoples races.
