Raymond Loewy, who either designed or influenced the design of nearly everything cool that was manufactured in the 20th century, was born 120 years ago today.
Happy birthday, sir, and thank you.
The man could - and did - design everything from sewing machines to wine glasses to iconic logos to locomotives.
The man really knew aesthetics.

And he certainly influenced some designers who came later...
The S1 s probably the most extravagant steam locomotive ever built. 140 feet long, it was shown at the World's Fair in 1939. It was fantastic looking but wasn't real useful and sadly was scrapped in 1949.

Yeah, but he also did some that more than made up for it with decades of service:
Ah, the GG-1. I seem to recall seeing one of those working outside of Philadelphia back around 1979.
The GG-1s ran into the 80's
He also designed the most recognizable of Greyhound buses, the Scenicruiser
