I got the new HF catalog and saw that they have pumps for air compressors...mine died some time ago and I refuse to buy a complete new one and/or throw away the broken one(yet).

They are splash lube with iron cylinder liners, which is a plus.

I suppose the next step is to get myself over there but I hadn't noticed them on my last trip, maybe the stores don't stock them. Anybody actually lay eyes on them or even bought one?

They stock them in our local store. I bought one of the 5 hp ones and used it to resurrect a big compressor of mine. A few challenges in getting it adapted (this may be the case anytime you use a different pump with an existing compressor). It's been up and running in my father-in-law's garage about a year, no problems.

We sell the same units HF does and they seem to be decent quality for what you pay.

I have a 3hp unit (really 3hp, not the overrated versions) and it's served me well for the last three years.

My father in-law had the one at his drycleaners blow up and I lent him mine. It ran in the boilerroom of a drycleaners for nearly a year without any trouble. This was providing the compressed air for the spotting boards, presses and whatnot. He finally bought a new machine a few months back and my compressor is back in my shop safe and sound.

UPDATE: I made it over to the local HF to check out the pumps. Unfortunately they were out of stock. I did, however look at the complete compressors of the same manufacturer, and they do look like a quality piece.

While waiting to talk to the manager, however, I witnessed a somewhat disconcerting situation. The store has a Help Wanted sign up and someone was inquiring as to what was available; PT or FT, what hours, etc. He was told that " we are cutting back on hours and it's causing some frustration." He asked "then why do you have a sign up?" He was told that "HF corporate" made them have the sign up whether or not they actually have a position for anybody...

I worked at a rather large and infamous jewelry store that had application quotas for the managers to meet. They affected commission. You probably wouldn’t believe the other quotas that had to be met by managers and sales staffs.
