The crew deserves credit for creative problem solving because they either had dealt with it before or could imagine it happening.

All Harrier pilots have mad skills but, as he stated, he just followed the same procedures he had performed time after time.

The happy ending was the result of great training and teamwork; kudos to everyone.

every ship with Harriers probably has that little table thingie just for situations like this.. it is a cool thing to watch, but this clip of a jet taking off thru a wave is more awe inspiring:

AFAIK, the padded stool he landed on is the aircraft equivalent of a jackstand for maintenance work. Cool to see quick thinking on the part of the crew and skilled control on the part of the pilot.
