Preface, I didn't want another cat. I like cats but I am not a pet person. I'm pretty selfish and I know that. I already have two cats also.

this is beef supreme. My work day started like any other. I got to work and saw them unloading a truck, which is bad. I went inside and it was utter chaos. And then....my boss tells me she and my small engine guy found a kitten in the cage where we keep all the outside stuff. Ok, catching a kitten sounds a lot more fun than doing my job, so let's do that.

Turns out, she's a slippery little E36 M3. Evaded all attempts at capture by diving under all sorts of pallets and machinery. Knowing none of us fit under a pallet of mulch, a new plan was hatched. A quick run to Target netted some food...a procured bowl and we had water. Let's see if we can coax her out.

She wasn't having it. Not a whiff of her furry butt. So we decided discretion was the better part of valor and left the food and water out for her, and tried to go about our business.

Later, checking in, she's definitely been eating and drinking. So she's hungry, and she likes food. This is not really surprising. More attempts to acquire her actually chase her further into the cage, and under pallets of concrete. Not sure if you're familiar, but those are very heavy. We need a different plan.

So, the cool thing about working at a hardware store is, it's a hardware store. Some of you may have already said -op you dumbass, why haven't you gone over to what I assume is your pest control section and grabbed a live trap? Well, I did. Obviously. Set up one way so she couldn't go get the food without triggering the trap. Went back inside to close up for the night.

Also fortunately for us, we have motion cameras in the cage, because crackheads CUT A HOLE IN THE DAMN THING AND STOLE OUR GENERATOR. Florida man be floridian'. So, with a little engineering, we've got a camera that will trigger when say...a live trap contains a small animal. Like....a kitten.

Sure enough less than an hour later, I get a text that I need to go get the trap out of the cage, because it has been triggered. Confirmed as I was en route, contains small kitten.

Get there, and there was a small, mildly upset, little tabby girl waiting for me. I wasn't about to leave her there til morning, especially because I was watching a lightning show on my way in and my cage is about as water tight as a mesh scuba suit.

Transferred said little girl to one of my soft sided carriers, and off to my bosses place, who happens to have been a vet tech. Came back with a surprisngly clean bill of health. One dirty ear, maybe worms, no fleas. Grabbed some food and off to home. On the way, swmbo says we need to name her. Ok, it's beef supreme. Why is it beef supreme? Because it's funny. That's why. Also it goes with cheese sandwich and pastrami on rye. (Yeah I had been thinking about that.)

At home, obviously she's scared. But, she's already given me some purrs, and is extremely food motivated, so she should warm up fine. I'm not sure if we can keep her, but I do know a few people that will take excellent care of her in any event. For now she's safe and not getting gross in my cage so there's that.

Job well done.

The naming of cats is a difficult matter...

Aw what a sweetie! We found a kitten about that size under our porch last summer. He's a lot bigger now :D

I believe you were incorrect in your opening statement. You have three cats.

Naming can be fun, or an example of how little imagination most people have. Great job on that front.

Some of our cats came with names. A rag doll named Dolly. Another female cat named Fred, gender being the only novelty. Boring.

The ones we've named: Pitty Kitty, and our current one, Sweety Slasher.

Her name was almost Kevin, but I had to keep the food theme.

I was. Turns out there's none of those in the cage at work either.

Well, we made it through the night. I woke up and found her on the counter. Turns out, she can jump. A lot. Has full body rattler purrs. Definitely likes attention. It already seems like we might keep her. Swmbo isn't settled on beef supreme as a name. I named the last two and we aren't changing it now.

Every cat you rescue reduces your lap time by 1 sec. It's science.

That name gave me the first laugh of the day.

I'm always scared of opening the front door and finding a kitten. The last one we found camped itself under my bedroom window yowlling until my wife came out to get it. The little buggers know where I live...

Congratulations on the new addition! By naming it beef supreme it's going to be harder to find it a new home.

Either that or it goes the other way.  Lots more "lap time" when there's a snuggly cat. :)

So, she's insatiably hungry, constantly purring (loud too. Sounds like I started an ms311) and has discovered toy mice, the love of pets, and a litterbox. Shes a smart one. Vicious too.

I may actually get voted down on this one. Swmbo's not a fan. She is accepting of mcnugget though, so it's not a total loss.

McNugget is pretty good though.

We have no scheme to our pet naming. Toyo, Chap (came pre-named), and Reginald Eustace Cumberbatch III Vicar of Dorcester.
