and I ain't talkin' suspension. I received a letter today claiming that my tax return from 2013 failed to include $6 (yes, SIX berkleying dollars) in income from my now ex-wife's shares of stock in Wal-Mart. They're demanding NINE HUNDRED AND FORTY TWO DOLLARS for this error.
Suggestions?
Face to face meeting with a human being. Somehow.
Could it be a scam? I agree that talking to a human is probably the best course of action, but I'd recommend looking online for the IRS number rather than calling the number on the notice.
NinjaEdit: Might be legitimate if they know that much detail, then again, might not be as some records could be public. Do you KNOW it was six dollars or do you know she owned Yahoo stock (possibly part of some public record) and they created a fake letter with a guessed amount knowing most people wouldn't know the exact detail?

Probably legit, I got one of those last year. Call the number on the letter and talk to someone. Turned out I just had to send in some form and it was taken care of. So instead of owing $24K I got $23 back.
I would check that it's legit first and also check that the phone number on the letter is a legit IRS phone number.
As an alternative to trying to talk to someone at the IRS (which I understand can take a while), you may want to look for a CPA who's also enrolled agent. Stuff like that is their bread and butter.
A co-worker got a similar letter because IRS disputed something about her kids college tuition. She called and explained what she did and how she did it and they said fine, but file an appeal. Or pay it and we will forget it. They also said if she appealed, she would be audited. She did and they did.
I think I will vote for whichever candidate promises (pinky swear) to banish the IRS.
yea definitely call. I got a letter a month or 2 ago saying i hadnt paid the ~$600 that i owed on my state taxes, which I had paid and had been taken out of my account already. Turned out I put a wrong year or some E36 M3 on the form and the $600 didnt go to the correct spot. what really pissed me off was that they didnt bother letting me know something was wrong or sending it back, they just kept it and sent another bill for another $600. if i had not called they would have just keep the original $600 and gladly accepted the new $600 check they wanted me to send.

The date on the article is important. He wasn't a candidate when this news came out.

Is Immortan Joe running? If so I think you should look at his water rationing policies, I find them quite disagreeable.

When asked directly by O’Reilly if he was targeted because of his anti-Obama stance, Carson responded, “Well, whether that was the case or not, the fundamental issue here is that the freedom of our citizens is being threatened.”
LOL, that's a long and meandering way to say "Yes, I absolutely believe so."
I keep having issues with the Local PA taxes. They keep sending me notices from 2012 saying I owe about the same amount, but I have W-2's showing that I paid taxes via my employer taking them out. I haven't lived in PA for 2 years now. Sent all the info in via Fax as that is the only way they accept it, and got another one the other day.
Anyone near Scranton want to impersonate me to get this fixed? shakes head

Nominate me for Benevolent Supreme Leader of America. Anyone who works for the IRS and actually enjoys their job will be executed by anti aircraft guns.

guys … just knock it off …. there's time for funny and times for pulling your turtle head back inside your shell and waiting out the E36 M3 storm
most everyone on here is smart enough to understand this
and that was cute … but time and place
I have gotten a bunch of calls from the IRS. Apparently they employ a lot of people these days with a loose grip on the English language and use words like "government action". Heck I even had Steve Martin call me the other day and warn me of the legal action that was pending (messing up the tenses of some of the words in the process).
(I suspect there are many others who know what I am talking about)
I really, really want to call one of these guys back, but not from my home phone.
