Ooooh, the wife is testing the ol patience today. Sends me a message "MINI brakes are grinding" berkeleying awesome. I'm pretty sure I just spent a giant pile of money to fix that damn car, and it included the brakes. But of course, she pitched the work order, so I have no record of what I had paid for- and she refuses to call the dealer to get a new one even though it's HER CAR. So I figure, screw it- I have the starter for the Prism, maybe i'll get lucky and that will be an easy job. NOPE. Turns out Toyota buried it under the intake manifold. I don't have the right tools to get to it. So... yeah.
Refuses to call? Let wife deal with the brakes.

If i do that, it's going to cost me hundreds of dollars, instead of like... 50 bucks.

Nope, park it until she does her bit, no tags, no gas.
If she wants to drive it, she can do some of the running after it.
One day without the car and I will bet the receipt will suddenly appear.
This is not a sexist statement, it would be the same if she did the maintenance and he refused to do anything to assist her efforts to keep the running costs down,
Calm sir, calm.
It is hard, and I understand being a former smoker myself, best thing I could advise is do something with your hands (I was able to quit with the E-cig because it was the movement from my hand to my face that killed me) staying occupied is the best thing you can do.
And I hate to go there but on the 4th of this month will be 2 months since my father died from lung cancer, as he never intended his wife and kids to go through something like that it happened, you have to ask yourself do you want your family or children to have to go through that for such a preventable temporary convenience?
BTW Proud of you and keep it up!!

Lung cancer- honestly not a concern of mine. I know- it's a REALLY strange thing to say. If it happens, it happens. I'm not going to live on regret. It's just REALLY frustrating when she pulls shens like that.... I'd tell her what I was up to, but I've got my own shenanigans. I suspect she isn't going to notice for at least another day. I just hate it when E36 M3 piles up.

Yeah, Not gonna pull the trigger- just have to "escape" as it were, and am finding it more difficult than usual. Avoiding the drink because I tend to like a smoke with it, probably a bad idea right now.
Also working out helped for me, granted I know you are limited but anything is better then sitting on the couch and stewing about whatever problem is brought up.

Yeah, there is benefits to having a two year old. He runs. I have to chase him. I just need mama not to be a berkeleying trainwreck some days.
I know this is gonna sound stupid, but this is exactly why I posted this. I'm going to hold myself accountable if I actually tell someone it's happening, that's not my wife. She's terribly supportive, but to the point she'd understand if I broke, as it were. I expect you lot to not show me the same courtesy. And that's precisely what I need.
HTFU,or go to bed, whichever works

I will never let you forget it, ask DrBoost its what I'm good at

Unfortuantely, due to some fairly serious joint issues- I am somewhat limited as to what I can do, but we're already walking a ton because two year old.
I had some serious joint issues as well... You may want to try this out.. It worked for me and my mom.. Your results may vary depending on what your issues are..
Get some Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. Regular Coconut oil may, or may not not work.. I have never tried it.
Anyway, take 1tsp twice a day.
Just so you know Coconut Oil is a solid at room temp. Take a tsp and let it melt in your mouth. Also, do not take Vitamin D supplements if you are taking Coconut oil, since both increase the absorption of calcium and Magnesium..
My mom still takes it because she has arthritis and is in her 70's. In March she could barely walk. Now she can do whatever the hell she likes with little pain. She no longer takes the Doctor supplied drugs..
I am in my 30's and only take it occasionally just to maintain my joints..
This E36 M3 is like WD 40 for your joints!!
Worst case scenario, if it doesn't work for you. Coconut oil makes one hell of a good cooking oil. Even at extremely high temps. It doesn't smoke, so you can cook food at high temps without setting off the smoke detector ...

Those brake and starter stressors would be there even if you weren't smoking, but at the end of the month you will have a bigger pile of money to throw at them.
I would also offer that you should still go onto the balcony each morming. It's part of your ritual. Take your cofee, tea whatever. May a piece of fruit. You have etsablished that as a time for solitude and contemplation, so keep it. Just don;t take a cigarette with you. After a short time you will notice the smell. That will inspire you to stay off them and probably power wash the area.
Good luck man. Its worth it.

what Mental said ... keep to your rituals .. just substitute something for the smoke ....
and if it takes it .. focus on the money ... as much of a cheap E36 M3 that I am, I think that's what did it for me

Well, it's the morning so it's technically the start of day 3... but I'll have 48 solid hours some point tonight. Wife still hasn't noticed. Or if she has- she hasn't mentioned it.
Also- I REALLY want a Holden Maloo. PLEASE GM?!?!? I BEEN GOOD!

Day 3- she still hasn't really noticed. Now I find it hilarious. Yesterday was spent trying to potty train a child. Most kids need some sort of token to keep their focus on sitting on the can. My childs choice? My recently found reciprocating saw. I was smart and took the blade out before he got it.

Oh man, another trial by fire. I decide to quit, and E36 M3 just. keeps. going. I was supposed to sell a car today. It's a 350$ beater. I told him it needed a starter. The reman is in the car, it just needs to be installed. It will run. Guy tries to lowball me at 200- COME ON. I was polite, but as soon as he started with the "It's rougher than it looked" I was like "This thing is staying here, title's in my pocket, I wanna go back upstairs." berkeleyin waste.
