UPDATE-O-RAMA: I've decided to take the position in Baltimore. I'm a little apprehensive, mostly due to it being another cross-country move and starting over elsewhere, but I think the city itself offers a lot of what I'm interested in (some of which I will admit is being nearish other cities that I like being in). I start in mid-November, which I pushed for to allow me to attend the GRM Challenge.
I have an offer letter waiting for me that I hope to have signed and sent back by the end of today.
Thanks again to the folks here that participated.

Congratulations! Looking forward to you joining the Baltimore region. Let me know if you have any questions, or if you need any help when moving at this end.
I say step one is saving up a few extra bucks, aside from the usual for housing and all that stuff, so you'll have a big pool of money to pull from to visit a new gastropub or restaurant on a regular basis. If you like good food and drink, Baltimore is an excellent place. Also if you like live music, there's a ton here as well. I think you'll have a great time here.
Also let us know as soon as you arrive so I can be the first to say "You're not in Kansas anymore"
All good advice, thanks. I'm already thinking of different social stuffs to get involved with. It's kind of wild knowing that things will be so different and it's so far off and yet I know the time will fly by.
Definitely hit up the downtown hot spots - Federal Hill, Fells Point, Canton, Inner Harbor, Hampden. Also check out some of the nearby towns. When I was single, I spent a good bit of my spare time bar-hopping in Ellicott City.
Enjoy some locally distilled spirits as well!

If you're in Kansas now Baltimore will feel like the center of the world by comparison. Lots of stuff to do.

The city reminded me a lot of when I lived briefly in Philadelphia about a decade ago.
Congrats! Despite my mixed experiences on my short trip, I could absolutely feel that the place had real character. Find the best parts and figure out how to dodge the crappy bits and it should be good fun.
Welcome! Crab cakes and Road rage: That’s what Maryland does! Watch out for hipsters on scooters recklessly “yeeting” across the street. They’re easy to identify wiping their beard clean after chugging their basic bro stouts & hazy IPAs this fall. The squeegee kids are cool, just give em fruit snacks. Chaps isn’t that good. 2 for 5’s doesn’t refer to gatorades at 711. If someone asks you for a hack, they don’t mean your computer. Within 14 business days, you will be required to pledge your allegiance to either Royal Farms or Wawa: Choose wisely! Sheetz is not an option. I don’t care who you are, where you’re from, what you do... as long as you don’t ride your brakes around the 83 North on ramp. Egg custard snowballs are a delicacy and no, they’re not a sex act. Potholes, Potholes Everywhere! Lastly, No one gets more spicy then a Baybilly when you casually mention you don’t like Old Bay that much.

And no one 'round here calls it "Royal Farms". It's "RoFo". Apparently that have to compete with Wawa on that whole brevity thing

This may be the most concisely informative post on GRM. Kudos.

The irony of a new member's first post starting with welcome ;) :)
I'm already down with WaWa, Old Bay is decent, and the rest of that doesn't make any sense which I'm fine with.
What genres of music do you like?

Where the only cop show ever made worth watching, The Wire, took place.
Well, The Wire, of course, evolved from Homicide: Life on the Street, also set in Baltimore. Ran from '93 to '99.
The Wire is the best TV show ever.

Sent you a message, maybe it didn't make it through. Can you hit me up at djronnebaum at the googlemail dot com to maybe set something up? I'm not finding the kind of rental home I was hoping to and I need to know how insane my ideas are. Would like to find something with a 2 car garage in a neighborhood that has walkable things that isn't also, like, Annapolis or some far-away different town from Bmore.
