I am assuming the proposal to station troops on your Northern Border is to prevent citizens from escaping North to our free health care system and less crowded hospitals? Or is there another reason?

Don't mention Canadian healthcare in earshot of my Canadian boss. You'll get a 15 minute rant about how much it sucks.
I had to Google that for the sheer what the berkeley factor.
I remember going to Canada on beer runs with my 17 year old older brother.....

They're wrong
It's really a conspiracy between the Canadian and US governments to keep us Americans away from all the delicious poutine.

May I introduce you to the Eskimo biddet?
As far as "Leaving" it cost $2400 and the line is over two years long.
My lottery number was 70 during the Viet Nam draft so I strongly considered going to Canada. My Dad who had 2 Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star from WWII supported me & said he and Mom would come visit frequently. My spouse said it was too damned cold there (we divorced, she re-married a couple of years later & moved to upstate NY, not too cold there I guess). I didn't go. Sometimes I wish I had.

This was a tried and true weekend when I was in college. At that point you only needed a drivers license to cross.
Back to the original question, I think its so all the illegal immigrants that freely walked into Canada, because we are led by a moron, can't go back south again.

Pretty much every Canadian I've talked to agrees.
One told me he was stunned that he got into a doctor in less than 45 days here in the US. He asked me if dentists were the same way.

When I turned 18 in High School the drinking age had recently been raised to 21 in most states except for Vermont. Some friends and I thought it would be cool to cut classes and do a road trip to Vermont to buy liquor. By the time we got there, after gas money and lunch, we just had enough money for a bottle of Riunite Lambrusco wine. By the time we got home, the buzz was gone and we had purple teeth.
