Didn't want to hijack the water softener thread...

We actually have great water where I am, though our house's plumbing is less awesome.

Moreover, I'm just... funny about water. I have a sodastream and keep limes on hand to get myself to drink the stuff.

Right now we have a Pur filter pitcher, which replaced a Brita. Both of them seem to clog up quicker than I'd like, and worse, if a guest refills it with water that hasn't been left to run cold, it'll plug up instantly.

In the name of convenience and fridge space, we want to add an under-sink filter plumbed to the cold line so we always have filtered water.

What a clusterberkeley researching that has been. I checked Consumer Reports, and whether or not their info is worth a damn, I didn't come away with any sort of solid feeling anyhow. My girlfriend was doing a bit of research, but the primary hits for reviews ended up being from a subsidiary of one of the manufacturers...

So... Anybody got an undersink filter setup they're happy with? Any they hated with a passion burning so bright it couldn't be put out with the puny dribble from the craptastic tap?

I've had a few different whole house filters, which are nothing more than under sink filters scaled up a bit.

None worked any better or worse than any other.

Go with whatever your local store stocks so you can get replacement filters easily, and replacement parts should you manage to break something.

Filtrete Advanced Under Sink Water Filtration Kit from Lowes. Filters last 4-5 months here in Alabama. Have had a system for 8 yrs and never a problem.
