Yeah, that story will never die. I've even used it a few times when someone even attempts a lowball. Epic.

When we bought our house the guy left some suburban stuff around,a bumper some other odd stuff and 4 rims, one of which is steel the other 3 are aluminum.
Since it was winter I thought, hey someone will want some cheap rims for their winter tires, 3 aluminum rims and 1 steel is kind of a buzzkill so I'll post them low and help someone out.
$40 for all 4 with crap tires attached. My ad title was " 6 hole 16 inch rims , one steel" the picture shows all 4 very clearly
I had a guy message me asking if I would deliver, normally no but I happen to be driving by to work every day so I say I will.
Guy messages me back acting like an shiny happy person because he thinks I'm trying to screw him over because I didn't list the steel rims in the description. I tell the guy that it's in the picture and in the title and the description says " cheap rims".
He told me, and I quote " who the hell looks at the pictures or the title"........so basically.....you just click on random ads? Wtf

People have answered my emails because I’ve asked simple, clear and relevant questions. I got a free 1964 MGB because I was the first person to put together a coherent email.
This.
I find I have a lot of patience with people when there is money involved.
Expanding on my wheel story. I listed 2 things in the ad specifically. The tires on these wheels were not usable. And that they were 5x5.5 pattern. Literally every person that has contacted me has asked how good the tires were and what they fit.
I stopped trying to sell my GTA because I had people asking me if a car with no engine ran.
Amazingly though my TBI intake manifold was sold quickly to a guy with questionable plans for the part in question but he seemed to know what he was buying.
On a related note, I had someone try to get their money back and return a toy train I sold them because it wasn’t running well. Which I said in the ad. And in the texts. And could be seen in the video.
How do you justify that???? You knew exactly what you were buying. And you could still probably sell it for more than you paid. I’ve never asked a prior owner of anything I bought used for anything, with the exception of information (when was oil last changed, how old is this battery, etc)

(Kidding, don't anyone actually do this)
Of course not. *Wink*
and this is why I got away from stripping cars and selling the parts. I enjoy what is left of my sanity

Wish i could find the post again. Im fuzzy on the details other than getting fined for setting a riding mower on fire in my driveway to prove a point to a mouthbrrather....

I guess I never shared that story with SWMBO before, you're her new hero.

So you're saying I should stop doing this?
In reply to Nick Comstock :
If anything, I think you should expand. A little pain can go a long way in fixing stupidity. When I do something stupid I get hurt, it should be the same for everyone.
In reply to Daylan C :
I had the same issue with the 4th gen Camaro roller I had. I showed the engine compartment photo with nothing there and stated that in the description. Still had several idiots asked how it ran or could they drive it home. Told one guy he could if he brought some friends to push it. I did end up selling it to someone in Ohio, because Southern car.

Please tell me that was intentional.
I just want to know if the camero has good breaks.
It has good breaks. However, it cranks but won't turn over.
The rage that is filling me right now...
Years back, I worked with someone going to the local training college who was not cut out for auto service. Was from the boonies of PA. One day he was asked to bring a car in, and he walks out. Walks back in and says "She cranks but she won't turn over!"
Service manager, dumbfounded, just said "What??"

So did you update the add with post fire photos with a higher price??

LOL, that brings back a memory. I sold a guy a very unique motorcycle and had to deliver it to his house. He did not know how to ride. I saw it listed a couple months later completely wrecked, it looked like it went down hard, for nearly 50% more than I sold it to him for.
I had a guy threaten to call the cops because he didn't read my ad. I had a 7.5hp Mercury outboard listed and he thought is was a 75hp engine. The ad stated the horsepower as both 7.5hp and as 7 1/2hp. There were also pictures that clearly showed the horse power sticker. He ranted loud and long enough that my neighbour drove over on his tractor. It's amazing how fast someone will calm down when confronted by someone with a shotgun and a backhoe.
A friend of mine just sold a dirt cheap GMC Envoy for $1500. It was in great shape and ready to go except for the part where it's a RWD/no-LSD gas hog that can't tow much and is awful in the snow. But if you have 5 kids to haul around and need a minivan type thing, it is one heck of a deal. The ad specifically said RWD. Day after it is sold the guy texts him saying he thought it was AWD... Yeah like you can buy a pristine AWD SUV for $1500 in snow country in December. Plus, you know, he test drove it and so on.
For craigslist stuff, I have people meet me at a gas station 2 minutes from my house, and text/call when they have arrived. If they no-show, fine, I never get a call and don't have to lift a finger. Ironically, I don't think I have had anyone completely no-show since I started doing that. But plenty have been 30+ minutes late and I avoided sitting around with my thumb up my ass waiting for them.
I listed my Wrangler on CL and the local Farcebook buy/sell/trade on Sunday night.
So far I have had 1 spam email from Craigslist and an interested buyer. Interested buyer seems nice enough but voiced his concerns about viewing the Jeep having to drive an hour with his kids in tow.
Well do you want it or not? If you want it bad enough, you will figure it out.
@stanger: I had someone try to use the distance from their city to mine as a negotiating tactic.. "I have to drive two hours, plus pay gas for both cars on the way back." If it's such a hardship why are you browsing CL ads in my town? Forget you. I actually said "Travel time is not my issue." NEXT!
Last year my wife listed a toy refrigerator on CL, multiple pictures inside and out, the work Toy several places. We get an offer but they would like us to deliver it about 20 min away. We just wanted the thing out of the house so i load it up and we head out. After figuring out they had tested the wrong address we pull in the driveway and I get the fridge out of the back of the car. I carry it in the house and ask where they want it put and am pointed to the kitchen. My wife and I look at each other as we move to the kitchen. At that point the man of the house asked where the cord is, it was all I could do to not start laughing. Turns out the mother of the two adult siblings in the house had thought it was a real fridge, so we packed it back up in the car and headed home. They whole ride home my 6 year old daughter was trying to figure out how they had thought it was real.
