So yesterday was our regions final auto-x of the season. Our annual swap and drive event. Basically, if the keys are in it, it's open. The ol' Forte saw 20 or so runs. Last years RS-3s are officially done. Got my hands on a plethora of fun cars. So here's my list and take on each:

'13 V6 mustang- This has had some suspension work and exhaust etc. It's a fun drive. that 300hp V6 has plenty of oomph and is really balanced in this thing. Fun.... even though I lost it at the top of second gear in a mild right hand sweeper that saw me going off into the grass. Still fun.

'15 5.0 Mustang- My second fave car. 216 miles on the odo when I left the start line. Tremendous grip. Tremendous power. Very poised. Still spun it. Whoops. No problem. It will quickly spin itself back the other way. Very impressed with the car as a whole.

'05 Mustang GT- Driven this before. Been upgraded a little since last year. Down on power compared to the newer cars. tires were done and was a little pushy but always a good time to be had.

302-swapped 91 Miata- truly the surprise of the day. Quite possibly the EASIEST car to drive. Very drama free. Great grip, great power, great everything. Super heavy steering at slow speeds but tht was my only complaint. Brakes were easy to lock, but just as easy to modulate at the limit. OVerall super awesome car to drive.

370Z Nismo- One of only 3 cars I didn't spin. Very easy to drive. Feels .... numb to me. Easy enogh to drive but just didn't really hold my attention. Not bad, just not up to par with the others IMO.

first Gen CTS-V- Comfortable American Muscle. Car is way faster than anything with this bulk and lack of tires should be. Likes a little slip angle and makes you feel like a hero very easily. Also will bite you in the ass when you get cocky.

"Drift" Miata- 1.8 car with modified knuckles to allow more counter steer. Fun car.... likes to be sideways. A lot. First vehicle I've driven in a long time that would step out on throttle, off throttle, part throttle, no throttle, thinking about throttle..... spun it 3 times. In one run. Ok, technically only two COMPLETE spins, but the third I was so out of sorts I had to slow it way down to get it under control. Super fun.

Some randome FWD- seriously don't remember. That should tell you how memorable it was.

B18C5 swapped EK hatch- Fun car. Lots of grip. Good power. sounds obnoxious because Honda. More muffler, be much better.

The SooperKia: I own it I figured I should make a few runs in my own car. Used it to scare the inlaws. Set it up looser than normal and it worked quite well. ALways a good time.

and now we'ew at my #1 drive of the day. It was sitting on 2 year old COnti DWS all seasons that were pretty roasted and it still turned my fastest run of hte day hands down with all the nanny devices turned off:

C6 coupe. I believe the engine had been tuned, had headers and a glorious exhaust.... and worn out skinny tires. That car was absolutely un-friggin-believable. Rewarded smooth driving, pushed you in the seat like a 400lb gorilla sat on your chest and was just stoopid fun. So fun, I may end up divorced. Wife already said no. I found one 300 miles away for $16k.

This event truly is my "kid in a candy store" moment every year. CAn't wait until next year.

Car hopping at non-points events is typically the highlight of the season for me. Sounds like you had a blast!

You have trusting friends. I read some form of the word "spin" a lot in that report!

It does sound like you had fun.

How does "car hopping" work? How are numbers/runs/etc get managed so that some guy doesn't just hog all the runs?

In reply to KyAllroad:

We either take our numbers/magnets and put them on whatever car you're hopping in, or leave numbers on the car and just trade a run with someone.

We did a night test-n-tune last month where we had the timers going, but nothing being recorded. Everyone was swapping cars and having a blast. I did 30+ runs and only 3 were in my own car. It was incredibly laid back and fun. I hope we do it again next year.

So let me get this straight - a 370Z was one of the only cars you didn't spin? How does that work?!

In reply to Bobzilla:

Which did you prefer: the '05 Mustang GT or the '13 Mustang V6?

There's no recording with us. No numbers, nada. Different people do different things. Some will leave their fast time posted in the car, some take them with them.

You'll need to log in to post.
