At the airport with wife and kids. Was able to get a flight into DC tomorrow at 7am.

Took me an hour to find a parking spot at the airport. Now I hope they dont cancel the flight. Worst case I have to go back to the house, which is shuttered up, and ride it out.

Here is hoping everything goes well for everyone.

Still prepping here. Need to ground anchor the catamarans and move some cars that are parked under trees. Shop is cleared out to accept my car and the in laws two cars. Filling up two 55 gallon drums with water.

Went to fire up my multi function Stihl power head and she would not fire. No time to fix. Ran to Ace and grabbed a new power head and a top handle saw.

I DO NOT like the latest track.

still prepping.  I moved the kayaks into the carport, and plan to keep them there with a ratchet strap or two.  I set the canoe on the ground so wind can't get underneath, may also strap it to car port.  filled stock tank with 625 gallons of water so it cannot blow away.

Still need to trim trees and strap branches together to the fence.

Is there enough time to suggest that you fill the canoes and kayaks with water?  So IF there is flooding, they will have less reason to float and break away.

Some of the port damage in St Maarten was containers floating around vs. being blown around.

It's looking like it's going to miss us. Everyone south, stay safe.

Yeah, stay safe FL and GA folks. This one is a bad one. Based on the predicted track last night and this morning, both which made things a lot better for my location, we are not leaving and going to stay put. Hoping that the track does not make a surprise shift back to the east.

The track change late yesterday made us put off GTFO decision day until tomorrow. It's looking that we're now on the edge of it going from low hurricane to tropical storm. It also gives me more options of places to go with family.

The track has it going right over the top of me, but as maybe a cat2. Won't be a big deal.

All the tracks now go directly over us here in the Macon area, but only at borderline tropical storm strength if that. I'm not really too concerned but you'd think Zee Germans were invading given the reaction around here. Pretty much anywhere south of here is going to be rough, and Miami is about to get proper berkleyed.

Hang in there folks and do what they ask.  Growing up in St. Pete I am not envious of your spot and will never bitch about a little snow again!

So, is it now saying that SC and NC will not get a direct hit?

GA gets rain/wind of less than 39 mph and it will be windy all the way to Indianapolis?

All of FL is still berk'ed-all-the-way.

Jeez...that prediction has the eye (or whats left of it) possibly near Cincinnati by Weds morning. Im going to make sure I put some extra rain-x on the Cruze just in case. Preparedness is key!

Jokes aside, stay safe Florida. My company's HQ is near Jacksonville. Almost nothing is happening because people there are in full blown poop-themselves mode right now. I cant imagine what its like down there right now.

Lil Stampie and I went to Home Depot this morning to buy a broom. Lots of free entertainment watching people freak out.

Charlotte Motor Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway, and Talladega Superspeedway have all opened up their campgrounds for any Irma refugees that need a place to ride the storm out. That's a great gesture, but Atlanta is right in the path of the storm, so I'd skip that one.  Looks like Charlotte is dodging a bullet this time around.

'Cause on a rainy day there is nowhere better to be than the slippery red clay hills of Road Atlanta!

Oh, and cold showers!

On the other hand, make your way to the skidpad area.  This will have you parked on solid pavement at the very top of a hill.  Much better than anything down hill.

This is a question that has befuddled me for years. When people buy plywood to cover up windows... and then remove it after the storm passes... what do they do with it? Wouldn't it make sense to find a way to safely store it for the next storm? frown

(The_Jed's wife posting) I posted in the other Irma thread, but wanted to put it here, too...

I know it's getting late in the game and traffic/fuel are problematic, but if you need a place to crash and can get to IL, you're welcome here. The house is lived in and, at times, chaotic, but it's far away from Irma.

Now back to watching and worrying. Family in Largo about a mile from the Gulf, more family in Dunnellen and close friends up and down the atlantic coast makes for a very worried Morbid...

Thoughts are with all of the GRMer's in the path.

Just some stuff I found interesting while watching the weather.

Flights leaving Florida earlier today:

I find it amazing that watching this graphic, we've predicted that it'll turn sharply north and head for Florida as opposed to continuing west.

The route some of the forecasts are predicting look like it wants to make a wide loop around 285 and then head towards the coast again.

Be safe everybody.

I've been watching this thing nearly non-stop since Tuesday...I'm responsible for my company's response to the storm.  Even watching Weather Channel as I write this.  Track keeps shifting further west.  Only time will tell I guess.

Sitting here in Atlanta, storm won't be horrible by time it gets here.  My only personal worry is that my house backs up to the woods and the elevation.  The trees are about 40' tall with relatively thin trunks and a full coat of green leaves.  I'm also at the bottom of a street that has about a 100-150' elevation change from top to bottom.  Very steep hill.  Only saving grace there is that my house itself is built into the side of the hill.  My front door is street level (of course), but the deck on the back of the house is 12'-14' up.  So rain flows right down the hill and into the woods.

Isn't it fun? I went to target for a deck of cards. The panic was apparent on everyone.
