My stock car kit has a plastic rod on a tree that looks suspiciously like an axle. Weird, because it came with two metal axles. I think all the AMT axles of that vintage were probably the same size. Metal or styrene rod cut to length, shouldn't be hard to find something at the hardware, craft or hobby stores. You can always drill the holes a little larger.

Slow going here... I'm off the week after Christmas, so I'll most likely finish then, lol.

Not to hijack this thread, but I picked up my copy of Contest Cars 2021 and just started to leaf through it yesterday. Lo, and behold, vwcorvette's Pinto is on P.40 and TurnerX19's Tiger is on P.67. If I missed any other GRMers with a picture, apologies in advance. Way to go, guys!

I need a copy of that. I hadn't heard if I was included or not. They asked for pics and a write up.

Way to go TurnerX19

So I finally started...

It's a model that a friend asked me to do in the before times. He races an FB RX7 in Lucky Dog enduros and he gave me a NASCAR model, a couple of resins pieces, and an RX7 to put it all together.

Here is the 1:1 car. There's a lot of custom pieces in it that are going to have to be scratch built.

The hardest part will be the NACA duct in the passenger door.

I got the drive train assembled and the suspension fitted for ride height.

The cage is coming along but I'm running into an issue with the driver. He's either 7'4" or 1/20 scale. I chopped off his feat and have no seat to get him in.

Alternatively, I can go no driver and have a nice seat.

Thoughts?

He is 1/20 scale. Look at how big his head is. Yeah, I know, the drivers all get big heads after a win, but not that big.

Nice! The Monogram RX-7 is a great kit.

I just looked through my spare parts box to see if I still had the driver from my last 1/25 Indy car build for you, but I must've thrown it out with the empty box. I'll keep looking.

Man am I behind. I better get back to work sanding and blending fenders on the Vette. Who does body work anyway? Jeez.

More trivial progress on the '58, mostly because there isn't much to do but what needs to be done depends on the two things I am doing to be done. What does that mean? I can't put the body together until I finish painting the staggering amount of chrome trim on the exterior, and I can't do much else with the chassis until the rear suspension is put together.

Today I finished the rear end with the addition of shock absorbers (Koni yellow, of course). Earlier I put on the exhaust, which in typical Claffie fashion doesn't come close to lining up to the manifolds that were put together and installed in the chassis 30 years ago. It's a theme with my builds, exhaust not lining up and radiator hoses missing or wildly off the mark. Exhaust checks out on this car; time will tell if the radiator hoses play nice or conveniently get lost.

The body trim is about 90% done now. Once that's done, building starts in earnest as I have to hang the doors, install the glass, install the interior, marry body to chassis, and then add on all the bumpers and lights. With nine days to do it and no real holiday plans on the calendar, this shouldn't be a problem.

Many of my builds are missing lower radiator hoses. ;)

We should start a FB group for guys whose kit exhausts don't meet the manifolds. I'm sure we'd have 100,000 members in no time. laugh  I started using Krystal Klear to install upper hoses. It can fill in the inevitable gaps pretty well. When it dries I just paint it black to match.

Fordillac service van is nearing the finish line. The interior is not fully packed with Kurtis parts, but a complete rear end and some spare "unpainted" noses are hung on the walls. The license tag came, the graphics are on, and the engine room needs only a little paint touch-up. Outside it needs lamps and a big wooden push pad on the front bumper. I got the latch handle to work on the cargo door too.

I am calling this one done, because there is another build calling me hard, and I could keep filling the cargo area of this indefinitely. It will work to push the midget off as well as tow it too. Real plywood push pad from the same sheet as the cargo floor.

It's a bit late and I have too much on my plate but I just came into possession of a sweet 1/25 Pinto. So hopefully next round I can get in on the action. For accuracy I may light it on fire.

I have a Pinto kit that I started on. It's got the funny body kit from the "Pintara" custom kit, but it doesn't exactly fit right anymore since they updated the front end to the facelifted version. But I think I can make it work with some hacking. Not sure I'll finish it in a month, but I can try.

Speaking of which, I'm still fighting paint issues on the 767b. Not looking good for getting it finished this month.

I don't have a Pinto kit, and hate the updated front on the available onesad I did just start on the Revell Germany Jag E Type coupe. Impressively engineered kit, far nicer than Heller's.

The 58 Chevy is approaching the finish line. Big progress today as I installed the windshield and backlight, hung the doors, and added all the little stuff under the hood. Chassis is finished as rear wheels are on. Interior has been done for quite some time. All that's left is to mate the three big pieces together and take care of all the lights and bumpers.
