For the record, my wife said the doc said her behavior was controlling and untrusting.
Thanks all for your input. It's helped us, and spurred conversation. That is always good.

Which may be true and understandable considering family history. It may also be the root cause of the behavioral problems in the child.
I was in therapy for a good while (from ages 7-12). I would rather be confined to driving J-bodies for the rest of my life than have to visit another shrink. They did nothing to really help me, and only one wasn't a shiny happy person. As for my mother, we blame each other for our problems. This makes things stressful.

Over the last 2-3 years we've modified his died quite a bit. It has helped for sure. I had NO idea it would make a difference, but it sure did.
Sometimes it's a matter of finding the right person. The impossible to define "right" doctor might be ok with her. Which would mean some (lots) of interviews and such.
We've/I've used some, both for the kid, for when I was kid, etc. Some worked well, some not so well. Some you establish trust and comfort with. Some you do not.
There's really no point in wasting time and money on sessions with a doctor you don't feel comfortable with.
So, along with the discussions you're having, perhaps checking some more out might help.
