The USS Sable was a pilot training ship used during WWII. There are some good images here, the crashes start about 1/3 down the page.

I was surprised they would build a paddlewheeler that large as late as 1913. I noticed it doesn't seem to have elevators.

Sweet, thanks for sharing. My Father In Law (turns 81 tomorrow) often talks about going and watching planes take off and land from than when he was in Chicago as a kid in the war
