Changing to a new PC with Win7 at work and low and behold our old HP Scanjet xyz scanner isn't compatible. No matter how many work-arounds and shortcuts/compatibility modes I try. It wasn't that great a quality anyway.

I haven't looked at scanners in years. I have an Epson Perfection somethingsomething at home for occasional use, usually something for my mom. Now I'm thinking it's probably junk with my new Win7 box I bought last year...hm.

So, what's out there now? I mostly scan documents for the bosses to email to people, but occasionally I scan an existing brochure with pretty pictures that we want to keep pretty.

Anyone?

Do you need a stand alone scanner or is an all in one type machine ok?

In reply to T.J.:

Stand alone. Image quality trumps everything else, including cost. (Their dime.)

I just moved to Win 7 and my Epson Perfection seems to be working fine after a driver update.

Last time I needed a scanner, I went to Office Depot and just picked up one. It was way less than $100 and has been working fine. It's the Canon CanoScan LiDE 200.

I have one of those also. Bought it when I was running XP. It is still working on my new Windows 8 machines.

I've got an Epson Perfection V500 that does a very good job scanning both under Windows and OS X. Decent quality and it can even double as a film scanner if need be.

I'm using mine with a Mac, and I never had a problem, either.

We use the Epson 10000xl and 11000xl at my work, both are excellent units (and should be for the price), so if your company is buying....

I saw the V370 before I left for the day. The V500 only seems to be a few bucks more. Thanks.
