Did you know, that engine was designed and built in 1927.  It was a long stroke slow revving engine of the time.    48 hp.   I was later revised to get 63 hp at 4k rpm.    This was the main reason Willys got the contract.   This engine was later revamped with the F head and more power, still keeping the same bore and stroke.    Along life for an old design

One reason the cruising speed was 45/50 was the gearing,  5.38-1.    The rpm at 50 mph was app. 2600.    The military Jeeps were geared 4.88 but rear diff.won't fit.   Different axle.
