In reply to John Welsh :
I'll expect to receive my No Prize in the mail any day now.

Now I'm curious how close we were to David's computer estimate.

"Oh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness."
That's much more reasonable than I imagined. I was looking at the corner, and what appeared to be the door track and thinking that would be a big issue.
I need to see if I have any pictures from when I accidentally slid my BRZ into a ditch back in Jan 2017. Essentially the rocker under the driver door had a dent (so it had to be pulled and the entire huge panel repainted), the driver door, tail light, trunk, spoiler, and fancy exhaust.........................................I think it was something like $8500.
However, I used one of the best body shops in Tulsa. When it was done, I don't think anyone outside of the factory would have known. Also used one of State Farms preferred shops, which meant it came with a lifetime warranty on repairs.

$2750.00
Also spot on!
Hey, I got robbed. I pulled a total "Price is right" on Datsun310Guy with a bid of $2,751.00.

Okay, one more dose of Total Consciousness coming your way too. Or, make that Total Consciousness +1
Having only looked at the pictures, that's got to be about $2928.35 worth of damage. I'll go read the rest of the thread now to see what the other guesses are.

If your approach is honest, that's some damn good guessing!

OK. Some school districts still operate their own buses and may be self-insured, which is why I asked.
I'd go with around 24 hrs of labor (spread out over a week or so) and maybe $500 for materials. Using a WAG of $100/hr for the labor in your area, My money guess will be $2900.
Your right there.
#1: $3,056.97
- $941.52 Part
- $1,027.20 Body Labor 21 hrs @ $48
- $456.00 Paint Labor 9.5 hrs @ $48
- $96.00 Glass labor 2.0 hrs @ $48
- $285.00 Paint supplies 9.5 hrs @ $30
- $54.95 Misc
- $193.30 sales tax
#2: $2,799.73
- $1,119.20 parts
- $2.50 other parts
- $249.60 Paint and Materials 7.8 hrs @ $32
- $92.56 sales tax
- $864.00 Sheet metal labor 18 hrs @ $48
- $13.00 Mech/Elec .2 hrs @ $65
- $374.40 Refinish 7.8 hrs @ $48
- $84.47 tax on labor
There is so much “fuzzy math” here, my head just ass-ploded.
Also: A PLUMBER here in the sticks charges $75/hr.
Also also: “Tax on labor!?”
I’m so confused.
Rates and taxes vary wildly by state. $48 is a bit low; we are at $52 here.
Insurance companies have the rates suppressed so shops make up for it by using 'funny time' for estimating labor. So we write 2 hrs to repair a dent that will take a guy maybe 45 minutes. It's a silly system but has been in use since the 1970s except on the west coast where I'm told they write actual time but at labor rates closer to $100.
I'm sure any estimate I write on my whizz-bang computer would be right there with the two he got. Writing a vehicle without a VIN is kind of a PITA which is why I can't be bothered to play/cheat.
The guy who said you should "ask to have it totaled" was a facepalm moment.
