Looks like a 6 hour drive for me on Thursday to pick up a running GMC 270 engine if all goes well.
A 6 hr drive through Chicago and up to Green Bay. Guess I'll just keep going around the lake to end up camping in Gaylord, Mi with the rest of the family Friday night.
Will have to take a young-in or two for company and pray the chunk of cast iron will fit in my minivan with the engine hoist.
Flew to Miami and drove 12 hours one way back home by rental car full of parts.
Remove as many seats as possible, also conveniently reveals tie down points to secure aforementioned iron chunk and engine hoist.
I think my record is Jackson to Toledo (and back), for a Yugo transmission. I know people who have gone to the coasts for weird stuff though.
Do parts cars count? Knoxville to Southington CT.
Actual bare parts? Louisville KY to Greenville NC.

Let me know if you've got time for lunch as you go through Chicago
Drove 7 hours to buy a stock head for my classic mini and have the guy teach me how to port it. Only to get it back and find a hairline crack.
My buddy and I drove down from the Western Chicago Suburbs to Mid-America Corvette parts in Effingham, Illinois (200 miles) for some Corvette parts - as this was 30+ years ago and I was about 19 years old - I didn't know we were picking up $20 worth of clips for his 1972 Corvette until we got there.
It was a good thing we were in my Datsun 310GX with the A14 anemic engine. You won't hear that statement much.
I drove into Pennsylvania and back for a pair of Miata seats. I got way lost on the way there and it took twice as long as it should have. It was an all day event. I bought a GPS the next day.
if you drive up the coast to get to gaylord i'll be in branch starting wednesday night, stop by or meet me in scottville or something and i can bring those parts for you, otherwise i'll mail them and send you a postage bill
i've gone from cleveland to almost valdosta, ga for parts. and i went to connecticut for a fiberglass front end for my old camaro.
Indy to far Eastern PA and back for a parts car mx3. Done many trips to Louisville, michigan, chicago, and deep illinois.
Oh, and New Hampshire for a Miata that had parts on it. I only kept the parts.
Pattgiz, How long are you in Branch? I could probably meet Sunday midday if you are around.
I drove an hour and a half one way to pick up a pair of seats. Other than that I've just said 'Berk it' and paid for shipping, but those things haven't been at large as seats.

heading back to ohio monday.
I went from Cincy to Boone NC one time for some parts. But I stayed on two lane back roads the whole way. Turned a 14 hour round trip into a 22ish hour round trip.
I know someone who had a turbo failure (shaft snapped, intercooler filled with oil, etc) in Las Vegas, another person with them drove to Los Angeles to get a replacement, drove back and installed the turbo, and was back on the road in less than 2 days for the drive home to the ca bay area.
