Looking for a less expensive($50-70?) driving shoe. Low top, non-SFI. Recommend any brands and places to buy, double for a real store to try stuff on.

I've been wearing some "barefoot" Merrells recently. They're actually really nice for driving, especially on cars with limited footwell space. Easy to find to try on. Probably near the high end of your range though.
I like my Puma Speedcats. Don't remember the price. Walked in the mall, the second store selling them had my size. Less than one hour inside the mall.
Keith: I looked up the Merrell's Barefoot line up. Not what I was expecting, I like that style. Do they breathe well?
Puma Speedcats. I can usually find them on sale in the $60 area. Been wearing them for about 5 years, and they're actually incredibly durable. I usually get a year to a year and a half out of pair, wearing them every day.

10.5-11, I have to try them on, no blind ordering in "size X"
Apexcarver wrote: Puma speedcats are $80-ish What I have heard is to look at wrestling shoes for cheaper options.
I have a pair of wrestling shoes lost in a closet... those are not anything I would want to wear once I get where I'm going to.
As it stands, what I have now are $12 "all-star" style low tops from walmart.
I have a pair of speedcats, I only wear them when I am driving at an autocross. They hurt my feet if I wear them shagging cones and such.
I think good cushioning and good pedal feel may be mutually exclusive.

Really well. They're meant to be worn without socks, but I usually have some cycling socks on underneath.
Tim loves Piloti shoes. Believe it or not, we have had pretty good luck finding them at Marshall's for around $20. Colors are sometimes not what you'd pick first, but hey, 20 bucks.

I think last time we talked about this subject, it was brought up that Piloti is no more.
Which sucks because i always wanted to try a pair.

Their website says the Vapors are washable. I think I found my next shoe...
I was at Merrell's website, looking at their FAQ and found this:
Can I buy a single shoe? Sorry, we cannot accommodate single shoe orders at this time. Our footwear is not only sold, but also manufactured in pairs. If you require two different size shoes, we would recommend contacting the National Odd Shoe Exchange (oddshoe.org) where they can try to match you up with someone to exchange for the correct sizes needed.
National Odd Shoe Exchange!

Worth keeping an eye out for. I got a pair of Piloti Prototipo's at Ross for about that price. I do like them. Keep them in my tire trailer box so I can wear running shoes to an autocross but have something to drive in.
Though, if I'm honest, I don't know that I like them any better than my previous "go to" driving shoes.
I still have 3 choices, I've got the original speedcats, original addidas racers, and a pair of puma's(idk the name) that are speedcats with hard leather. I haven't worn any out, but I do recommend running shoes for the autox work session.

Get them now because Piloti's gone out of business.
I ordered a pair of Puma Speedcats for myself a while ago. I remember we had a thread on driving shoes a few months ago, the Speedcats and Sparco Esse's were getting a lot of praise.
Puma future cats are good too. If you go to a puma outlet store they have shoes for 60% off sometimes, so you can get a pair for like $40. I like these, but they only come in ugly colors now, not black like the ones i have.
